I first spoke with the woman at the front desk over the phone. Our brief conversation was strained and weird. She was rude throughout the conversation and then hung up the phone on me as I was saying goodbye. I still went to check out the motel because they were running a good rate. As soon as I got there, I met the woman that hung the telephone up on me and she was actually nice at first, but quickly turned into the pig that I had spoken with earlier. I told her that I wanted to see the room before paying, but she said motel policy forbids that. In other words, she wanted to take my money and give me a crappy room. I told her that I could leave my ID with her while I quickly checked out the room, but she began to ignore me so that she could sell candy to a motel guest. I politely said thanks and left. Obviously the front desk woman does not understand that being rude to customers has a direct correlation to one-star reviews. I was not willing to book a room at this motel sight unseen, especially considering their horrendous reviews online. I went down the street and checked into a beautiful, newly renovated place called The Limetree Bay Resort in Layton, Florida. I was even able to check out two room options prior to paying. I find it crucial to check out a room prior to check in when in the Florida Keys. I have been coming down here for over 20 years. The Florida Keys are a tricky place for hotel bookings. The rude woman at the Coconut Cay motel gave me serious pause by first hanging up the phone on me mid-sentence, then being rude in person, and not letting me see the room before paying - Not a good sign!

Had reservations for two nights. No problem with check-in and room appeared to be clean. But when we woke up in the middle of the night, we were startled to find Two Big COCKROACHES IN BED WITH US! DECIDED TO LEAVE IMMEDIATELY. The office was closed and nobody was available to talk to. We dropped the key in the key drop an left. Called office this morning and the lady I spoke with apologized for the inconvenience and would not charge us for the second night. Needless to say we will not be staying there again.

I booked this hotel for one of our employees on your website because the phone kept saying the mailbox was full. It was the last hotel with availability and he had been working all day, so I was trying hard to find him a place to rest. I booked online and when he arrived he was told that you don't do reservations online. I have an email confirmation from your hotel with his confirmation number and made the reservation on your website. Due to your negligence he was stranded. I would NOT recommend this hotel, due to shady practices. We better not get charged for this.

Our Coconut Cay stay was incredible. We didnt come in expecting much but it turned out to be so good that we decided to stay another night. The resorts amenities really just blow it out of the water. We were able to kayak to the ocean from the dock in the resort. The staff is super friendly and responsive.

My family booked 3 nights at this "resort". We had a horrible experience with check in. The management was beyond rude. A very unwelcoming experience. The room was clean and the ac cold. You will wait at least 5 minutes in the newer buildings for moderately hot water to shower with though. We were told the hot water heaters are installed incorrectly. *they didn't fix it as of our check out or offer a different room for our stay. Half of the "resort" is an old motel. Met some interesting "residents" of the motel while trying to enjoy the pool with my daughters. Be sure to keep your young girls under your supervision. I would not recommend this a place to stay with your family!

Prices are to high for what you get. We had ants and roaches in our bed. I went with my brother for a fishing trip we can rough it a llittle but we wont go back. I would not bring my wife to this place. Air condition struggled to keep the room cool. Lock on door was sketchy also. It did have great boat access and has potential to be nice. Maybe after a good renovation it will be better.

Buyer beware You may be arbitrarily cancelled. Booked this place on trip advisor two days ago for a good deal, much lower than the advertised price. When I show up (after driving five hours) I'm told that Trip Advisor cancelled me, and they should have contacted me. Basically the manager tried to shift all blame to them. However, I received no call or email from trip advisor, and I definitely didn't cancel myself on their site. What I did receive (at 10 am the day I was supposed to check in) was a cancellation directly from the motel. My guess is she booted me when she realized that she could get someone else in for more money since she was going to be sold out. Do yourself a favor and just stay at the Holiday Inn across the street. Cleaner, free breakfast, good wifi and I got in for 145 a night.

Staff are fantastic! Rooms are spacious and the patio chairs are comfy. Loved the ability to rent a kayak or fishing gear (and more) at no extra charge (they hold your ID until you return the equipment). Pool is nice. There's a fish cleaning station on the dock. There are plenty of picnic tables and grills. The rooms are definitely older and in need of an upgrade, but they were clean and cozy, and the air conditioner worked like a charm. TV and channel options were great. Plenty of places to eat nearby. NiiWe would definitely start here again.

I loved my stay, the room was perfect, I saw on the canal a school of baby nurse sharks. I loved watching The airplanes fly by so low. The staff was great. I will return always.

This place was probably amazing back in the 60's. Unfortunately now it feels pretty dated. The free kayaks and paddle boards are really cool, but the $50 fee for not washing your own dishes feels a little extreme.

Old, dirty, dingy. Don't waste your money. This place may have seen better days but it was a long long time ago. Everything is beyond sad or tired looking. The place is exhausted!
I can't understand how any other reviews that would give this more than two stars.
There must be a mystery room someplace they're keeping so that they can get a better review.
The room that we had hasn't been thoroughly cleaned for years.
When you open the door to the room you actually hit one of the beds.
I imagine that they aren't well-staffed and the best that they can do between stays is to change the sheets and towels and the grounds and pool area need serious attention.
I'm sorry to give such a poor review. I just don't want anyone else to be deceived as we were.

Definitely not the cleanest place but it worked for us for one night. Friendly staff, nice pool area, restaurants and bars a short drive away. Cute tree frog that liked to hang out outside by the bathroom window!
