This is an excellent County Park! We were here during the holiday lights festival for 3 nights and it did not disappoint. The camp is run by volunteers and staff and they take their job seriously. The Highlight was the dog park. This is the best dog park I've ever been to. It has a separate area for small dogs as well. The dogs can swim in the lake and there is a nice Beach for them. There is a shuttle that you can take from the camp in to Charleston for $10 a person. Staff are very helpful and the camp is kept clean. I would highly recommend this Campground.

We tent camped here and were able to spend a great night. Well, everyone except me. I put up my tent by the car, and apparently that's a big no no. Got woken up at 2a by a ranger telling me to move my tent. Big bummer. Other than that, the bathroom facilities were clean, the pricing was reasonable, and it's relatively close to downtown.

A really nice place to camp or just relax. The Christmas light show is really nice and is a must see. We'll plan on a return trip next summer.

This is a fantastic park!! Far beyond my expectations based on experiences with other county parks around the country. It is huge with beautiful natural scenery. They have a world class pool complex (The Splash Zone). I love that they do not try to save money by turning the thermostat down on their showers. At least in the camping area, you can take a steamy shower for as long as you want (I use James Island Campground as a base when I go to Charleston to kayak, and the showers afterward feel so great). It is clean. They have a host of programs year round. I often go to the excellent paddlesports festival held in April. There is a fishing dock on a small tidal creek on the perimeter of the park. The staff are always helpful and friendly. The restrooms are kept clean. Just a great place.

Excellent! Lots of amenities for RV camping, but still has a woodsy, traditional campground feel. Great activities for familiesfishing, water park, playground, walking/biking trails. The shuttle to Charleston was very convenient and reasonably priced. The park is well-staffed and beautifully maintained in a natural settingclean and quiet.

Love the campground, and can't wait to go back another time. Unfortunately we damaged our 45-foot fifth wheel by hitting a tree while driving around the corner near site 45. While I accept full responsibility for this accident, I am annoyed that the campground said they are aware of this tree, and that others with large trailers have hit it, yet they gave me no warning ahead of time to not use that road with large trailers. Though they do have a yellow piece of tape hanging on the tree, which I saw after the fact. Hopefully others with large trailers will be aware of this and use a different road.

This was our first camping excursion in our 5th wheel. We loved the campgrounds. All the workers and host couples were friendly and helpful. We plan on returning in December!

Arrived August 18th and it was very hot. Nighttime temps were in the nineties and daytime was muggy and hot as well. They have a water park and for the life of me DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THEY ARE ONLY OPEN ON SATURDAY AND SUNDAY! Guests at the park, not only children, could enjoy cooling off in the lazy river when temperatures are so hot. The park is even open to the public and yet they still keep it closed. A sign out front says that beginning June 15th or so, it would be open on Monday Tuesday and Wednesday, but after checking with staff it is only open on the Weekend. CRAZY! They cant use the excuse that school starts, because over half your guests are from out of state! This along with outdated social activities posted in Bathrooms and boards I WOULD SAY THIS CAMPGROUND IS ABOUT AS EXCITING AS A MORGUE. Not to mention the staff running around telling you what you CANT DO rather than WHAT THEY HAVE TO OFFER. Please do not be lingering around lake after 8pm, cause they drive around like Gestapo saying PARK IS CLOSED! YOU HAVE TO LEAVE!!!!.. Gee whiz, I paid to stay here didn't I? Next time, staying in hotel in Charleston despite the cost. I came to Charleston to have a good time, not to be bullied and not have a water park starring at me in the face I cant use all week long!

This campground has it all, great layout, easy to navigate around the campground, shady sites, mostly level gravel sites. Nice store, stocked well, prices are very reasonable! Bike rentals as well! Stay here and you will be back.

One star for our late check in experience. After that 3-4 stars. . .

On the night of arrival: So far this is the worst campground experience I've ever had. We can't even get in. We are Arriving late. The website states to just come to the gate ring the call box and a night guard will assist you. So far no one will let us in. All of the phones numbers listed are either the wrong number or all business closed voicemails and to call back the following day, nothing actually connects you to a live person at the campground.

The debacle with the drunk night guard: we finally got ahold of him through the call box, he then opened and then closed the gate so quickly twice we couldn't get through with our 38 ft class a. He was then unreachable by call box for a weird 3-4 minutes each gate closing. Once we got in through the gate he was a friendly and helpful fella.

We stayed three nights at the end of march on weeknights. It was a quick and easy trip into Charleston from the campground.

The sites were odd. When we pulled in there was a tent on what looked like where the bedroom of our class a should go. Thinking we had the wrong site we jumped out to see that site 106 wrapped around the back of our site 107. Odd. Once parked The hookups were a relatively long distance from where we could park our rv due to (their tent and) trees on the site. If we didn't have our extension hoses for sewage it would have been unusable.

The sites were well shaded with trees but the biting flies and gnats made us want to stay inside our rv during our time at the campground.

The park had lovely paved trails for walking and we saw a family rollerblading. There was a huge off leash enclosed dog park with a lake for the dogs to swim in. This was our favorite feature of the park and campgrounds.

After arriving late and trying to sleep in the following morning, the folks next to us in 106 broke camp at 0645, a tent structure, a picnic enclosure with all associated tools and gear, a pop up, and two vehicles were packed up AT FULL VOLUME before the sun peeked over the trees. Seeing as I might as well get up and start my day, I went to shower in the bath house. The showers were warm with good water pressure. The usually wet floor with mild 'everyone pees in the shower' odor. Not long after putting shampoo in my hair camp employees started using pneumatic tools on the cinder block structure of the bath house. Not what I was hoping for while trying to take a relaxing shower.

Our afternoon at Boone hall plantation was lovely with a meal at see wee restaurant. The she crab soup was fantastic. Second day did a large walking tour of charleston and fort Sumter tour with a nice lunch at SNOB Between.

There was a odd feeling about the campground the whole time we stayed. We generally let our teens walk to and from the camp store, Rec areas, and bath houses alone but something was telling me to make them go as a group at this location. No incidents, just a gut feeling.

The rest of the stay was uneventful. If we find ourselves motorhoming through the Charleston area again. We'd choose to stay here again.

Very nice spacious campsites with friendly staff and neighbors. Pull through sites are large enough for any size rig, although some of the turns within the campground are too tight. WiFi worked well from our site. Definitely a family oriented park with a outdoor game area. Very close to Charleston and the neighboring Islands. The bathhouses are outdated and the laundry machines are placed outside on the ends exposed to the weather, there were several out of order. It's a bit expensive even for full hookups. Campers need to be doing a better job cleaning up after their dogs.

BIG RIGS should enter via Folly Road to Camp Road to Riverland. There are many low hanging trees, but this is the better route for big rigs! We camped 4 nights in November Nice quiet place with foliage between sites. Easy access to activities.

Stayed in the tent area, which is basically a large meadow surrounded by trees. You can't drive up to your tent with the car, which is fine by me. First come, first serve. Not sure if they have a limit for the number of tents in that area. Walking to the shower house takes a few minutes, but there are three toilets in the tent area. Not sure at what intervals the restrooms get cleaned, but there were indicators that it doesn't happen on a daily basis. We really only were at the campground to sleep and it's OK for that.
Apart from that it appears the park has a lot to offer, especially for families. I'd say the tent area is nice for groups as you can cluster the tents.
