Charming little aquarium with informative exhibits on the local fauna and environment. The sea turtle nursery is a particular delight, the staff give tours explaining how they’ve found, rescued, and rehabilitated the animals in their care. My only gripes are that the price is pretty steep for a smallish space and there isn’t much in the way of food offerings. These are minor quibbles though.

Amazing aquarium! Best ever! We got invited on a behind the scenes tour to the top of the tank. The deepest in North America!

Awesome! The behind-the-scenes tour was super cool. We were able to see the otter’s being fed and we got to get up close and personal with a rat snake, corn snake and a skunk for the meet the animals. We were also able to see the dolphins from the observation deck.

While this is not the larget aquarium out there it is still a fun place. Tickets are a bit pricey so we get the year pass and it is a fun adventure for my little ones. It is focused on local animals which is wonderful to teach our kids about. I really like the new area with the recovering turtles. The staff is always very friendly and great with my kids. I'd still go without kids, even if only once just to see everything. Get there right as it opens so you can see dolphins out in the water and have less of a crowd.

Highly recommend the South Carolina Aquarium. It is very well run. Took the family (2 kids - 6 and 4), 5 year old cousin, and the grandparents. All had a great time. When buying your tickets, ask about the"behind the scenes tour." It's free and so worth doing - for all ages. Every staff member we encountered was very nice and helpful, but I'd especially like to thank our tour guide, Bob. He was knowledgeable, enthusiastic, personable, and just great with the kids. He made our trip a special one.

My fiance and I had a blast at the aquarium. Parking was a little troublesome to figure out at first, but once we found the garage it was very easy. The aquarium is in a wonderful location right off of the water. All of the staff was exceptionally friendly. We paid an additional five dollars to feed the stingrays and it was worth every penny! We were also able to pet starfish and small sharks. We happened to arrive right before the feeding times so a lot of the animals were ver. active. I highly recommend the aquarium÷

The South Carolina Aquarium is an excellent showcase for the native animals of the area. Its residents include Liberty the bald eagle, Ace and Stone the river otters, and hundreds of other fish, birds, reptiles, and amphibians. The exhibits guide you from a glimpse of local sea life in a two story, 385,000 gallon tank, to a mountain stream in the upstate, teeming with crawfish and trout. The views of the harbor are some of the best in the area, and showcase the wild dolphins who frequent the area. There are two touch areas, as well as opportunities to feed some of the animals.
The newest addition is the Sea Turtle Hospital, which highlights the hard work of the men and women who assist injured Turtles with returning to the wild, as well as showcasing many Turtles up close. Definitely worth a stop.response / report this review -

You need to visit! I mean it. Like right now!
It may be small compared to other metropolitan aquariums, it is by far one of the most beautiful that I have ever seen. All the exhibits are wonderful, the staff is so helpful and knowledgeable, and the location is perfect.
It is a quick walk north of downtown Charleston. The location offers a view that is unparalleled by any other location in the city.
The aquarium also is home to a rehabilitation center for sea turtles which is amazing.
I'm not even from Charleston and I live nowhere close to the aquarium but I made it a mission to become a member and to visit as often as I possibly can from my home town of Chicago because this aquarium is just that beautiful and amazing.response / report this review -

This is easily was one the best aquariums I have ever been to, easily besting the national aquarium in Baltimore. Its design is very modern and elegant. There are two floors offering multiple exhibits such as an indoor rain forest and fresh / salt water aquatic life. The aquarium has one of the deepest tanks in the United States. There are several shows that allow audience participation which my kids thoroughly enjoyed. Plus many exhibits are interactive like the ability to feed invertebrates and pet sharks and stingrays. The aquarium offers beautiful views overlooking Charleston and the bridge and is easily one of the best places to visit while downtown.

Very nice but small aquarium! The bald Eagle was interesting and unexpected to see. There was a giant catfish, a white alligator that was standing upright, and a nice observation deck outside.

I honestly didn't expect much, I lived in Chicago and had a Shedd Aquarium membership for years. This was the perfect aquarium for a fun family visit. My daughter who is 4 years old loved it. There was a great mix of hands-on and unique viewing of sea life. It took us about 3 hours to get through (we stopped and played and read every sign). Highlights were the otters, the alligator and the touch tanks. The staff was outstanding in their explanations. We loved watching the scuba divers in the big tank and my daughter loved having to opportunity to ask him a question, amazed that he could talk underwater.

While the aquarium is fairly educational, it is just not large enough to justify the cost. The sea turtle rehabilitation area is very cool, and would be worthwhile for kids or teens considering veterinary medicine. On value alone, I would rate it 3/5, but the turtle rehabilitation bumps it to 4/5.

The exhibits are well done and very clean. The two story shark tank is very interesting. They have lots of stuff to do for small children and educational shows. The touch pool is cute and they have a step up for small children all g with two staff their to monitor and answer all questions. The nerf sharks were active and seemed to enjoy the attention. The Lego status throughout the building are adorable and melt in very well.
The down side is the price isn't really worth it if you are coming with older children or a group. Four adults is $100 and their child age stops at 12. So plan for extra especially if you like to buy at the gift shop, which I have a hard time not getting something to take back with me. It is a small aquarium and can really only take up two hours which for 25 per person, not worth. Also their albino alligator looks rather lonely and his home could be a little larger for his size.response / report this review -

Not the biggest aquarium I have been to but I still loved it. Everything was clean and well kept. The aquariums were beautiful. Touch tank was pretty neat. I loved the really big turtle, the eagle was gorgeous, and the albino alligator was the coolest part. The views from the Aquarium were really pretty and although it is illegal in South Carolina for Aquariums to hold dolphins there was signs that said you can see them if you look out into the bay. Usually when you see those signs you never see anything no matter how long you stare. Well guess what we saw a few swimming around out there which was awesome! Definitely visit if you love marine life and are in the area.
