UNSANITARY AND MANAGEMENT DOESN'T CARE!!! I was at the bar and noticed the bartender put his hand in the ice bin to pull out one of those big round cubes of ice. No tongs. No ice scoop. He did not wash his hands before, that I could see. I was really surprised. I'm like, "Who does that? Didn't he take a class in health regulations?" So now I'm watching him, wondering if it's a drink for him or is he really going to serve it to a customer. And he was all over the place adding things to this drink (I think he was making a Manhattan). He came to my side of the bar and proceeded to stick his entire hand into a syrupy cherry jar to fish out a cherry. He went to get something else and then came back and again stuck his whole hand back into this red gooey mess to yet fish out another cherry. YIKES! The whole jar with all the syrup was now contaminated from his hand. I'm like a little grossed out at this point and really can't think of anything else. Truly, I'm not a neat freak or obsessive in anyway, but what he was doing had such little disregard for sanitation, it was negligent. Our food. which was simply a slice of cake, was taking forever anyway so we left.
I called the manager the following day thinking he would actually care and he gave me the whole spiel of, sorry, will talk to him about it but then went on to say, well, you never know what's going on in the back of the house anyway so don't worry about it, you're food probably isn't handled in a clean way anyway, sum and substance. I told him front or back it should be done in a sanitary way. It was a ridiculous response he had and I'm now concerned about ever eating any food there.
So stick to what comes from a bottle in that place. They seem not to care about sanitary regulations.response / report this review -

Good food and busy place. I like the tavern feel and the booths. I had a cheeseburger and fries. Both were cooked appropriately. Service was friendly. Prices are high for my liking but normal for that area. Two of us had dinner and drinks for around $90. Finding parking can be a challenge. Be sure to feed the meter. They were out giving tickets the night we were there.

Always a great spot, no matter the day. Perfect week day dinner spot and even better during the weekend. Ask for Dan as his service is top notch. Check in on yelp and get 10% off. Great deal and great location.

Great place to stop for lunch, it can get busy with workers from around the area so arrive early if you want to get a table outside. Food is great, with a good selection and the portions are huge, and I can generally only eat half of my meal!!! Cocktails were excellent.
Service is always excellent, really friendly, helpful and very speedy.
Need to try this place out on an evening as it always looks fun when I passresponse / report this review -

On our last visit the server was assigned too many tables and as such couldn't give our group the attention we needed. It became 30-45 minutes between her visits. When our food orders came out they had messed up all 3 of our orders. No tomato.came with tomato. Medium rare came out well done.etc. Ordered drinks that were never delivered or forgotten about. Spoke to a manager and explained all of this. As far as the waitress was concerned she was overbooked with too many tables. The manager said no she wasn't and that she only had four tables. I watched her go around to about nine different tables before she finally made it back to ours Making 10.
It wasn't a 'terrible' experience as we weren't In a hurry and in fairness the manager ended up comp'ing our meal.response / report this review -

Overall a very bad experience. Our group order's was taken, only to be told at least 30 mins later that the order had been lost and it had to be taken again. Despite this, the second time around, the order still took a long time. It was just omelettes! And the second time around our table was still 1 order of omelettes short. Asked for more utensils, the waitress puts them on the corner of the table and walks off, instead of giving them to the people that need them. No one ever bothered to check if we had or required any utensils, more water refills, condiments, etc. I was very surprised the management was not more attentive since not only was our first order misplaced, but the second time around it took so long still. I've received better service at most IHOPs. The omelette was average at best, and not worth the price.
Overall experience, staff and food were below par.
Also if you decide to still go, be careful to sit on the inside of the booths, if you sit on the outside, waiters might elbow you on the back of your head as they walk by, and not apologize. And I didn't even say anything at the restaurant so that is just due to carelessness and not anger or anything like that. Consider my 1 star zero stars.response / report this review -

The server was not attentive at all. He kept wiping his nose with his hand and coughing into his hand. This made me very uncomfortable. He checked on us once the entire meal. We had to search for him twice to come to our table. Once was to send my meal back and the other was to get our check. I have eaten here for lunch in the pss and it was great. The brunch is not so much.

A very enjoyable place to have a drink and people watch! We requested a table outside and were greeted by Katie. She was delightfully friendly and was happy to offer suggestions from the menu. they had a great late lunch/early dinner menu! We had a very enjoyable visit!

Had lunch here today, OMG! Absolutely loved loved loved Laddana's Jerk chicken. The woman knows how to cook her Jamaican jerk chicken curry - Wow!
It should be served for dinner also. We would have missed it if we didn't eat lunch here
Will be back just for that dish.

We decided to try something different and this place sounded good. We were greeted by the most friendly host and immediately seated. Our waitress was beyond words! recommended a drink for me by just asking a few things i liked. Smoked Old Fashion was incredible!. This place is a must go to! We have found a new place for dinner! The double chocolate stout short ribs are out of this world so tender and so much flavor. The manager came and spoke with us for a few and was just a down to earth guy full of laughs. Big City you have 2 more regulars now and I will let everyone know of the most excellent experience we had!

I came in a group of 4 and we were seated outside. We were then told while looking over the menu that we needed to get up out of our seats because they sat the wrong party. They wanted us to GET UP because of their mistake! I have never felt so disrespected and embarrassed in a restaurant. We were not valued as customers . We politely got up and headed to American Social where we were immediately sat and enjoyed a delicious brunch buffet. Horrible and rude service at Big City Tavern we will NEVER go back.
