Great , unique place and very friendly owners . Will be returning!
Quirky hideaway on the keys. It is not a luxurious facility but the room was comfy and clean. The owners were very friendly and made us feel at home. The breakfasts were delicious and presented beautifully. We would stay here again.
The Barnacle was awesome, I loved it. Their hospitality is worth any motel I might stay in the keys. I actually worked for a short sprint with Tim and Jane a few years back, and they are kind to people- and non judgmental. They are awesome. The food is great, the beds comfortable, and there is no comparison to the beautiful key deer. The architecture of the Barnacle is beyond your wildest dreams, and there is no place like it AT ALL. from Key Largo to Key West.
There's a pond in the front that doubles as an mosquito breeding ground. The pump to the fountain that is suppose to keep the water moving has obviously been broken for quite some time since there is all sorts of toys and other items just sitting/floating in the pond. There's a foul smell because of the pond. The windows on the house have no glass (I guess for ventilation) so the mosquitoes and other bugs can come and go as they please. We were gone all day so we mostly got eaten up while we slept.
The first night there, 5 minutes after sitting on the bed I felt something biting my arm. I'm not sure what kind of bug it was but it didn't fly and after I killed it my blood spilled out of it. Before we left I put all my clothes in a plastic bag and left it in the garage a week before washing to kill any bugs I may have brought back home with me.
The owner was nice enough to get up and fix us breakfast the first morning. As we sat down to eat we noticed his hands were filthy. His nails looked like he just finished doing construction or laying tar. As we ate i noticed there were ants crawling on the table. We all lost our appetites. We respectfully asked that he never cook for us again.
The 2nd evening after a day in Key West we returned to the house to be greeted by what we thought was a homeless person. His clothes were dirty, full of holes, and just plain raggedy. He had a long, filthy looking beard and as we exited our vehicle he greeted us as if we had met him before and walked into the house. We were all stunned and speechless. This wasn't acceptable to me. This is a business and presentation is important. You're employees should at least give the impression of neat and clean.
With all that said, the house did have an excellent view and was right on the water. The deers are friendly and will walk right up to you. And the owner was a very nice guy. I enjoyed my conversations with him. However, the negatives out weight the positives to me and I would not recommend this location.
I stayed here for 3 nights and the staff was very helpful freindly and respectful thanks for letting me make my video .da noke bout that @ youtube
Very secluded. Everything was included. Much better than a hotel. Breakfast was amazing!
Stayed only one night. Would have stayed longer if they had the space available.
Wow were they nice. As an older woman traveling alone that night, both son and father made me feel welcome. I was able to use the free Kayaking for hours in the morning.
When I could not figure out the two remotes for the TV. They instantly replaced it and gave me a lesson. No this is not a french restaurant. Breakfast is a cooked basics, just like home. Coffee, orange juice, eggs, bacon, Ate breakfast with three other guests. Did not see anything left on plates and my extra bacon was satched up.
Artsy, laid back and very hands off; yet very accommodating. Free Parking and Key Deer for pets.
Thanks guys.
