I rarely go to a hospital. I have been very lucky. I had an evaluation that needed immediate attention. The staff at Baptist South took over the situation and started my road to recovery. Everyone was wonderful and went out of their way to make me feel comfortable. I thank you so much for the excellent service.

Delivered here and it was a good experience. My nurses were like family. The rooms are bigger than some hotel rooms and you have it to yourself to labor, delivery and recover. I took one star off because the food was just awful and the showers need to be cleaner.

Our nurse was beyond rude (Lori B). Seriously can't believe anyone would employ her. She was so rude that we declined to have her come back to our room anymore. Another nurse took a sample to check if my kid had strep throat - what a butcher job on that, very unprofessionally done. Considering the nurses already act as if it's a hassle to do their jobs, can't they atleast upkeep on their own hygeine? Their hair is uncombed and tangled like they are hobos. They act as weird as they look!

I have been coming here for years. Most of the personal are great, but they still have some bad apples in the baskets . Very expensive and they will not work with on the cost., unless you are dirt poor. The middle class gets screwed in this hospital.

I saw Dr. Benjamin Jivcu who at my surprise was a patient at a local dental office I work at. He didn't recognize me, most likely to the complete disfiguration of my face, but he treated me like he'd known me for years. I was in excruciating pain due to a recent oral surgery treatment that just went completely wrong, and Dr. Jivcu had me in and out of the ER within 30-40 mins without a hitch. I could tell his main goal was to make sure I was well enough to speak, breathe, walk, etc. on my own, and to get the pain to stop so I could sleep; this too was all I wanted. I didn't feel like just another patient, I felt like he truly cared about my well being with how gentle, down to Earth and over genuinely nice he was to me. I could have not been more thankful for Dr. Jivcu, as well as the rest of the staff I had met that day (unfortunately don't know any names) for just making such a horrendous situation as easy as possible. Glad to say I could have been a patient of a patient that could return the favor of treating me with the best care I could ask for considering the circumstances. Thank you so much Dr. Jivcu and the rest of the Baptist Team! My healing process is going well thanks to you all. Best of luck.

I've been to their ER three times for my gallbladder. It was exruciating and had to be removed. The first time, the doctor basically said there's nothing wrong with me with no tests ordered whatever and sent me on my way. Second time, they at least correctly diagnosed it after a CT scan and sent me home with a referral to their surgeon. He couldn't see me for a week. I wound up back in the ER four days later on a Friday as I was going downhill fast. They admitted me and scheduled me for surgery the next day. Trouble was, nobody told myself or the nursing staff this, so I was fed breakfast and the surgery cancelled. Getting discharged after the cancellation was a six hour ordeal because the nursing staff "forgot" repeated requests for discharge paperwork, showing up 90 minutes later saying, "Oh. Why are you still here?"
I saw the surgeon the next week and had surgery scheduled for that Wednesday. I was prepped and waiting for anesthesia when they lost power and it was cancelled. The next day, having been rescheduled, *I* had to cancel because Hurricane Irma was two days away. Surgeon promised to get me in right after the storm. After it passed and the hospital was back to full operations, nobody called me. When I called to reschedule, I was told he couldn't do it for over two more weeks. Worse, they said it was my fault for cancelling in light of the storm. I said forget it.

Postscript: mystifying beyond belief as it may seem, I actually agreed to have my surgery there when they offered to move it up to the Friday after Irma. My family was very close by, and Baptist did have all my imaging and test results already. It went remarkably well, due to the quality and concern of the surgeon. My gallbladder came out, and then four stones lodged in my common bile duct. When it was over, that's when it all went straight to hell again. The nurse in the recovery room gave me a useless dose of pain medication, which did nothing, and then another. When I complained it wasn't working, she flipped it off, saying, "there's nothing else I can do." I had to get my family involved, because by the time I got to my room, I was literally writhing in agony and incapable of getting help myself. After they called every number and spoke to everyone they could (it was after 5:00) the surgeon called and upped the dosage. It still left me in an unacceptable amount of pain. I've never had to deal with pain management this sadistic in past surgery. From there, history kept repeating itself as Baptist care. You go for hours without anybody checking in on you (despite their claim of hourly rounds) and it took 40 minutes to get somebody with the call button, despite well below average room occupancy. It was sweltering in my room, and couldn't sleep from sweating. Which brought the standard refrain, "there's nothing I can do about that." I also couldn't get them to refill the ice in my icepack often enough to keep the operative site iced to reduce swelling. They ignored IV's, didn't connect any of the monitors that were the reason I was supposedly kept in the hospital, etc. I was also admitted by the surgeon, not the on-duty hospitalist, so there was nobody that the nurse could call at all during the night for consults, changes, etc. The standard of care at Baptist is practically non-existent. You get better care in Cuba.

Do yourself a favor: avoid this menagerie of the callous and incompetent. It's your *life*.

Women's center has some of the most rude women working in that office. I've never had such disrespect in my life at a hospital. They tried to charge me full when my insurance covers and then wouldn't even talk my options out with me. I could have paid for the visit but I'd rather deliver in a van than ever come back here again. Called my insurance when I got in the car and sure enough my insurance told me I was 100% covered and they shouldn't have tried to charge me.

I'm pretty sure I'd rather drop dead than return. People have ignored us, been rude, and been unwilling to answer questions

There were two people in front of us when we arrived at the ER. It took 2 hours to get my husband back there, despite having symptoms of a heart attack. After we got back, it was another 2 hours before anyone said anything much to us. We saw the doc for like 5 min. She never said much, and then sent a woman in from respiratory services (another hour later) without ever telling us she was doing so our why.

All the while, we have two 4 year olds with us, because we had no other care options, and they we acting like we were jerks for having the audacity to bring children to the ER.

5.5 hours in and we are still waiting. It is now 2 hours past the kids bed time and things are going down hill fast, but we are still being completely ignored.

I delivered a baby here May of 2016.

I'm in the medical field and had my expectations before I came to the hospital. They exceeded them in most ways. The hospital staff was efficient, timely (as timely as one can be in a hospital) and respectful of my family's privacy. After delivery there were some concerns about my baby's respiratory status and they addressed those quickly while updating us along the way. There were so many people in the room it was hard to keep track but everyone performed their role well.

I would give a few recommendations as a patient. My husband was so distracted by the new baby that he kept forgetting to ask for sheets and blankets for his pull out bed. No one offered them either so he slept on it without. (Not much sleeping occurred though!)

There was a heart rate alarm monitor that went off for a long time frame (over several hours off and on) because my heart rate and the baby's heart rate were the same. It was unnerving and with my little L&D nursing knowledge it scared me. So maybe more education for the new mother on the matter or adjusting alarm limits would be good. I had him sit at the monitor and read me the baby's heart rate when it alarmed and that was stressful for us both.

Thank you to our Lactation consultant who gave us excellent instruction.
Thank you to our Russian nurse Irina (?) she discharged us home and was so kind!

ER nursing staff and Dr were 5 stars but hospital is 1 star

The ER rooms are split between 3 types of patients: life and death, fast track, and everyone else. Fast track = people who the hospital feels they can make a quick buck on because they can be seen and discharged very quickly.

Yesterday, my wife was in severe pain from kidney stones. They didn't have enough beds available in the "everyone else" section, so she had to wait. All the other people in the ER waiting room went in before her because they were fast track patients.

So, even though there were plenty of rooms available in the fast track section, my wife had to wait 45 minutes in excruciating pain (10 out of 10) because the other section was full. Plus, my kids got to watch their mom scream in pain for those unnecessarily long 45 minutes.

    What's wrong with this picture?

I bet when hospital management has to go to the ER for an "everything else" issue and there aren't enough beds, then they'll probably change this policy. But then again, they probably don't have to wait like the rest of us because they can pull strings.

Think I'm exaggerating? I had my sister (an out of state Dr) call the ER and, coincidentally, they found a room for my wife right away.

As I said at the beginning, the nursing staff and Dr who treated my wife were an A+! But the hospital management who instituted this "dollars before patients" policy gets a big fat F!

This is by far the best hospital I have been to. The nurses and staff were absolutely top notch. I never had to look for a nurse they were very courteous and checked on me regularly. From check in to check out everything was great!

The doctor, Cory Duncan, was compassionate, informative, and thorough. He had a pleasant bedside manner that enabled my fiancé to feel relaxed; even though feeling physically uncomfortable. We were quickly taken to a room and while the wait was long, and he was busy, he utilized every moment he had. When he had other obligations, he would dismiss himself- while we waited on lab work. Dr. Duncan would "pop" in to just touchbase and remind us that he was there and reassure us that he would be with us soon. I can not express my appreciation for his professionalism and demeanor. He is an asset to this hospital and to the medical community.
