Quaint little coffee place with bottled wine and local art. Nicely decorated cool space. Maybe we caught them on an off day, but the only person that seemed remotely happy we were there was the person cooking that morning.

THE RESTAURANT'S NAME SNAGGED ME. We driving on the Blue Ridge Parkway, and at 11:30, we diverted to the mountain town of Sparta to get some lunch. When I spotted the "Backward Bean Cafe" on Main Street, I said, "Let's give it a try." We had homemade chicken salad which was absolutely awesome, served on a warm croissant, with a side of melon slices. The cafe has a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. When we returned to our car, I pinned the location in my GPS, 'cuz we're coming back again on our next trip!
