Just want to share this to make sure it doesn't happen to someone else My boyfriends moms car was taken to Aurora Tire because a front tire was in need of replacement. We asked them to put two on the front and move the good one (She had replaced it less than a year ago) to the back.
They did. They let his mom leave (she got the tires replaced because she is leaving town tomorrow for work on a 12 hour drive). She came back after circling a block and told Don at Aurora Tire that the car was not driving correctly - it felt as though the brakes were locking up and she could smell a burning smell. They told her the car was fine and what she was experiencing was completely normal.
She got less than two miles down the road and her tire EXPLODED while she was driving. We drive to meet her immediately and found that while they were changing the tire the coil had a new, sharp edge that could be seen VERY OBVIOUSLY. The metal continuously dug into the tire until it blew up. We drove it back and the technician (not mechanic) that helped us was incredibly nice and immediately acknowledged the issue before even removing the spare. The owner and the mechanic, however, were not nice at all. The attempted to blame us for the damage and tell us this has always been an issue.
She drives this car to work every single day to Fairfield - an average of 70 miles a day round trip. This has never been an issue. They tried to tell us the coil had been broken before they put the tire on and told us there was nothing they could do. The argument they had was that "the guy that put the tire on the car isn't a mechanic - he wouldn't have known." Yet their technician saw the issue immediately without having to take the spare off. They wouldn't even apologize to his mom until I asked them repeatedly to apologize.
They eventually replaced the tire with what they claimed was the tire we had removed - but we always gets matching tires. This tire was not the same brand and was not even the same size tire. They said that's the best they could do so we just said whatever just do it and let us leave.
No apology. No responsibility for their part. Nothing. Be careful if you go there - they only care about the cash, not their reputation. They dont even care that if this had happened tomorrow it would be when his mom was on the interstate going 65-70 miles an hour instead of on a back road going 15-25.
