  Great value for car hire. Sure they are older vehicles. But they run perfectly and zero excess if you pay for coverage. Shuttle to and from airport as well. What more do you want!?

  First of all, at a blistering $250 NZD, USAVE had the highest relocation fee of ANY rental car company that I looked at when considering an origin of Auckland and drop-off of Christchurch.
  
  Secondly, the misleading insurance advertising and poor customer service left me very frustrated with this company after my 16-day rental. At the time of my rental, I was talked into purchasing a $12/day insurance package when, after much hesitation on my part, the salesman in Auckland said that this insurance would cover "any damage to the car whatsoever unless I was drunk or under the influence of drugs." However, when my front tire abruptly popped on the road 8 days into my rental, a heavy-set white male mechanic at the Christchurch office assured me that this was my fault and that I was responsible for purchasing a new tire in spite of the $192 that I was paying in insurance fees. This mechanic insisted that the tire had popped because of a careless act on my part--driving on a low-pressure tire--even though the car I was given had no tire pressure indication light. His grumpy attitude and refusal to hear my story was very off-putting. I will not be returning to USAVE for future car rentals and I do not recommend this company to other customers.

  As far as accommodations and rates go, we were very pleased with this rental car company. After checking a few companies, we decided to ask the info desk at Christchurch Airport who they recommended, and this was the company they suggested. They had the best rates we could find along with the lowest airport transfer fees (we were dropping the car in Auckland 3 weeks later). We rented a Nissan Tida, and the car ran great, and took us thousands of miles across New Zealand. No complaints!

  I had a great experience with the Christchurch office. I rented a mazda demio and GPS for about 3 weeks. The price was quite low considering the car was fairly new. I had to call once and also had a great experience with them over the phone. Returning the car was straight forward - had no problems. They even offered to drive me home because it was raining outside.
  
  Overall excellent service!

  The hire experience was fine but 10 days after returning the car they charged me $16 for topping up the fuel, at the price they charge for fuel that equates to about 4 litres.
  
  It seems a little petty especially when we filled it and dropped it to their outside hours drop off point, they would have then picked it up and taken it back to the depot and squeezed 4 litres in. Short of carrying a jerry can of petrol and topping it up when you deliver it I don't see how you can return it completely full.
  
  Just because a company can charge for something doesn't always mean they should and I will not be using USAVE again.

  It was a cheap car but it worked out reliable would recommend to hire from USAVE.
