This review has contradicting findings. We were at cabin 4 which has the best, and with that I mean an absolutely stunning view of the surroundings including the vulcanos. Well situated for the tongariro crossing which can be arranged at the reception. The cabins have basic and functioning facilities and will serve 4 persons well although they can fit 6 if you really like each other :-) . However the look of the place is as though they have not been maintained since their construction in 1989. Also it definitely needs a thorough cleaning. Moreover, placing a hot tub in a broom cupboard does not make it a spa but that one is complementary so I should probably not complain. Finally, complimentary Wi-Fi is more or less the standard for hotels now. Skotel charges you 5 or 10 $ for a mere 300 or 1000mb for 24hr. I would much rather have the price a little higher, a cleaner and well maintained cabin and complimentary internet. The potential is there

Good spot when you wonna go for a hike.
Quite cheap for all what you get, I loved the hot tub after the walks.

The place is a little old and crusty but cozy. We booked transport for the tongariro crossing at check in and it picked us up at the front door. The walls in our room made a popping noise at night. Very limited WiFi. 100MB/ day 30 min max. If you can get a room at the chateau for %30 more, do it. Otherwise this is a fine place to base from.

Stayed for 1 night during a quick visit to the snow. Beautiful views and friendly staff. Rooms are a bit dated and beds are not the greatest.

Amazing views, convenient restaurant. At start of nice 5k waterfall hike, and pick-up point for all other area activities. Rooms are large. Our chalet (kitchen, queen and two bunk beds) was a little dated, but clean. They have 2 hottubs and a sauna. Views!!!!

We stayed here the night before doing the Crossing. It was a nice place to stay, we stayed in one of the cabins with beautiful views and a kitchen. I would recommend it!

Affordable rooms with amazing views in the centre of Whakapapa village. Hotel staff could be more helpful and informative. Rooms have very thin walls, so having a good nights sleep is rare. Unisex toilets are clean but there are no paper towels or dryers to dry hands with. One of the toilet cubicles gets jammed and someone had to jump out of the window as there was no one in the bathroom to help them kick the door open.
