The worst service that I've experienced in my 2 years of traveling.
Before booking, we called the campsite to make sure that it is okay if we arrive after the reception closes, because we were not sure if we can make it in time. The person on the phone was very nice and told us that it's okay. We arrived approximately 30mins after the office had closed and we met the manager who was super angry and didn't even want to listen what we had to say. On the phone we were also told that we could leave our backpacks on the campground while we do the Tongarigo crossing. The man was just furious and didn't want to keep our bags, but eventually agreed to keep them. He told us to leave our backpacks on the kitchen steps from where he would take them to the office. But when we came back from the trek, we found out that the backpacks were exactly where we left them. We had all our valuables inside and we were lucky that nobody took anything and it didn't rain, otherwise all of our stuff would've been ruined.
New Zealand is full of lovely hostels and campgrounds, but this is not one of them.

Had a great time here, the Hot Pool feels like heaven after a 7 hours Tongariro crossing! Very nice and helpful owner, everything is pretty new and clean

We didn't stay here so I can't comment on the accommodation.

TA hikers- despite the trail notes you cannot get water here.

A group of 3 hikers arrived at 8.30am in the rain and asked reception for a weather forecast because we were hoping to do the Tongariro crossing (as part of the Te Araroa hike). The man first responded, aggressively, with "I'm not God" and then told us it was going to rain for 3 days.

We asked if we could stay on site for shelter and he responded with a curt "no".

We also asked for water and he said no because they had a tank. This I could understand if he hasn't just told us it was going to rain for 3 days.

The man was generally grumpy and rude which is a worrying trend for holiday park staff and quite contrary to the other kiwis we've met.

Rude!! Although I didn't stay so I can't comment on their facilities, I'm so very glad I didn't. I called them and asked politely if we could BUY (up to ten litres) of bottled water for the Tongariro crossing as we didn't realise we couldn't drink the steam water, they told us we couldn't as "a big group of other hikers had decided to buy all their water which is f*****g great." (As if it's a really big issue to buy their water they are selling).

I tried a different approach asking if we could pay via credit card to fill up the tap water from outside the holiday park (as we would unfortunately be coming after closing time). To which the owner kindly said "if I catch anyone walking around my campsite after dark I'll kick their head in."

As kiwis ourselves we are SO embarrassed people like this exist in the tourism industry, we pride ourselves on our hospitality and we are very sorry for anyone who decides to stay here. Lovely family friendly environment. Go you.
