I really like this cinema. I love the intimate nature of the theatres and the excellent electric reclining seats with footrests, etc. The experiences have generally been good and the movies enjoyable.
However, for the second time (in two visits) this year, the experience has been marred by the pre-movie drinks my companions and I have had here.
Earlier this year I had a Passionfruit Caprioska which was a bit weak and mostly ice so didn't last long. Oh well, never mind, I thought.
This time, I ordered a White Russian, which was terrible. Seemingly, a thimbleful of product with a couple of ice cubes dumped in a glass. No garnish, no presentation. Tasted awful. The Dude would definitely not abide.
The staff appeared to have no idea what they were doing (and even said words to that effect).
Furthermore, my companion remarked that her $15 Pinot of the Week was also far less than a full glass.
Now, if I pay big-city-cocktail-bar prices for my drinks, in return I expect nicely presented, professionally made cocktails put together by well-trained staff (who know the difference between a classic White Russian and what's on the menu), not just stuff dumped in a glass by unskilled amateurs who are suddenly rushed off their feet when two more people walk in.
Ruby's is a great cinema (four stars) but need to lift their game in the bar (minus two).

Easily one of the best cinema experiences EVER!!!
The cinemas had luxury reclining seats with sensational personal waiter service.
Jordi, the manager made our experience one to remember. I highly recommend Ruby's to anyone traveling to Wanaka.

If I could watch all of my movies here, I would. Screen 2 has huge reclining chairs, plenty of space, waitress service and great picture and sound.

The young lady behind the bar was super friendly and helpful too. All in all, a brilliant experience at Ruby's.
