Great shop with everything you need, even locally grown vegetables. Food is very good, pizzas have heaps of toppings and hot chips are great.

Really good place for a stop. The store doesn't overlook the lake but is easy to get to from state highway 6. Good choice of food.

Lake Hawea Sailz is a crucial store for the community and has been run perfectly by Liz and Dave for years. I am aware management has since changed and I am beyond happy to see and hear the standards haven't dropped.
The food is beyond what you would expect from a small town store but it is. the burgers are homemade-dad style but in the best way possible, toppings aren't held back like most places and one scope of chips could serve a small family.
The supplies aren't left to dust over and local veggies etc are sourced and sold here.
Also they give back, food scraps and left overs aren't thrown away but given to local animals etc.
You wouldn't think that you could have such pride for a dairy but as my first place of work at 14 to going back now it hasn't faulted in service and perfect Kiwi Culture

I went in there today - into the General Store part - not the upstairs resturant.
I ordered a lamb burger from the very pleasant young lady serving there today. The Lamb Burger was absolutely the best value for money buger I have had for many years. I would have expected to pay considerably more for such a very good burger at any other place.
I will definitely be spreading the word about the burgers from this place and i wish I could have gotten the name of the lady serving myself and the mate i was with as i feel i owe her a bit of an apology - myself and the other fella had just come out of the hills from 5 days hunting and we probably looked and definitely smelled somewhat awful. Despite that she served with a smile and as stated earlier - the burger was brilliant.
I thought the art of making a decent burger was gone these days - but this store has kept its value!!response / report this review -

After cycling up the river track from Wanaka it was a perfect place to re fuel and rehydrate. I recommend the burgers. Really nice views of lake hawea from the top deck.

Did our wedding reception. Fantastic food, great service, small things such as water for bouquets just happened, responsible hosts, good communication, stayed within agreed budget, and the best salmon I have eaten.
Including Michelin two starred eateries.
In addition to now having drinkable coffee and being the local grocery shop.response / report this review
