Good antipasto spread but the vegan pizza was a bit sad, given that it was only vegetables there definitely could have been a bit more generous with the veg. Nice courtyard and friendly staff though.

I am in love with this place and the staff. Very friendly and accommodating. Got lot of suggestions and liked them equally. Great place on a summer afternoon or evening to have a beer with friends. Live wood fired pizzas and arancini balls are my pick.

Beautiful old styled Italian restaurant, good staff, adequate variety including vegetarian and gluten free options. One can choose to sit in open or 1st floor with better view.

Ordered takeaways to be delivered. Firstly incorrect order delivered. Then told us to now come and collect as no one could deliver. When my daughter arrived to pick up the food they complained about me to my daughter! Food wasn't cooked so had to wait 15 minutes. As she waited they continuously 'bagged me' and 3 other people complained about their food. The food was under average and we didn't eat it.
Don't recommend at all. Use to be nice 5 years ago whats happened? get rid of the front person which would be a start!!response / report this review -

Sat outside which was nicely decorated and warm. Plus no drama like the last reviewer. Good size meals and classic Italian but slow to come to the table so don't go if you're in a rush. Cool area upstairs that would be good to rent for a party.

My boyfriend and I came here for what we hoped would be a pleasant date. However, although the rest of the staff were very friendly, our time was somewhat ruined by the behaviour of the head chef.
Having worked as a waitress in several restaurants before, alarm bells started ringing for me as soon as we arrived. Staff were scrambling around in what looked like terror as the head chef barked orders that sounded more like insults, filling the whole restaurant with the sound of his own voice. It turned out this sort of behaviour would be a constant throughout the whole night.
We could see the head chef chugging back in the kitchen, and on the occasions he came out to interact with the guests, he was quite blatantly drunk. Perhaps the old adage "don't drink and fry" would have been beneficial, as the kitchen was constantly filled with smoke. He continued to yell at his staff, whom he obviously had no respect for. He would loudly blurt out stereotypical Italian phrases, to the point where I almost expected to hear, "it's-a me, Mario!" eminating from this overgrown rooster's mouthit was pretty sad. One time he stepped out from behind the kitchen counter he made sexually aggressive pelvic thrusts at one of his staff, and another time as he strutted about the restaurant demonstrating how in love with his own voice he was, he grabbed the ass of one of the female wait staff members, who I SINCERELY hope was his wife/partner.
Furthermore, as a diner, I do not wish to hear what calamity and expletives are going on in the kitchen. Lord knows I have enough of that when I cook at home. I also don't want my quiet dinner conversation interrupted by the head chef's loud blustering as he marches around between guests.
On the plus side, his staff held up remarkably well under the direction of this man; our orders arrived exactly as we asked, and the food was acceptable (if a little overpriced).
At the end of the day though, there is absolutely no excuse to treat your staff like dogs, no matter how busy the restaurant is. I have worked in an environment very similar to this, and unsurprisingly, it did not go well while it was in business (emphasis on was). There is no respect between anyone, and tasks are done out of fear rather than a desire to do well. Yelling and being horrible to people only makes them more stressed and thus more prone to make mistakes. I feel bad when I am served by people who look like they don't want to be there at all (and for good reason). Fortunately, I have also had the pleasure to work in restaurants where none of this happened. No matter how busy it got (and it did get very busy), when someone made a mistake, the head chef or the front of house would calmly and quickly explain the problem and solution without making it a personal attack, and everyone moved on. Coincidentally, it was a pleasure to work and dine there, and their business is still flourishing today.
TL;DR: This place could be so much better if the chef sorts out his drinking and attitude problems and starts treating his staff like human beings. I'll be back when that happens.response / report this review -

Best Italian meal had in years. Great Pizza bread and lasagne. Compliments to the chefs. Highly recommended and will definitely be back again. Warm and friendly service as well. Wife and I had an awesome evening

Menu is good and the food was very nice. Good location and nice seating area outside. Waitress didn't wrote down our order and forgot our starters. Ordered a round of drinks and this was forgotten too. It was included on the bl so lucky we went through the bill to take off the extras that weren't brought out.

Nice spot with a good beer garden. Pizza didn't wow us but weren't there when the wood fire pizzas were available so expect they would be good.

Not cheap, but good pizza and pasta. I used to like it more before they changed the menu, but it still has some good dishes. And the outside area is pretty chilled

Had a wonderful experience at papas. Staff were very friendly and always happy to help. Food was fantastic, I had the lasagne and my partner had the spaghetti meatballs. I would highly recommend both!! Very clean and tidy and a lovely atmosphere to be in. We will be back for seconds :D x

Great neighbourhood restaurant. Always love it here. Went tonight for a casual dinner. Friendly relaxed staff and our food arrived promptly. Loved my pasta, such a delicious sauce. The real bonus was the pizza - great size for a growing teenager.

Staff were pleasant, but overstretched and constantly apologizing to the tables near us for delayed service and forgotten orders. We ordered a pizza and a pasta. The pizza was run of the mill, not much love in the making and substituted ingredients that were not mentioned at the time of ordering. The pasta was oven baked, and arrived after around an hour frozen solid in the centre. We returned it and it was microwaved. Low quality ingredients used for cost savings, and pre frozen meals not ideal, and to be honest a real disappointment. Papas had one chance with us and they blew it - I wonder many people experience the same ? Auckland has better pizza places run by owners passionate about delivering good quality ingredients and service for me to bother with visiting Papas again.
