My partner and I came for a dinner on Saturday night. We had a zuccini salad for starter, lamb and crispy skined salmon for our main. Both meals were perfect, we would love to come back here again.

We sat at the bar while we were waiting for our dinner reservation. It was an excellent decision because we got to enjoy delicious manhattans and a try of fresh oysters. Our bartender Tom was the best. He gave great food recommendations and also sent us complimentary champagne during our dinner in celebration of our honeymoon. The dinner was also delicious. We got the Wakanui Scotch steak and the broccolini. Simply amazing experience and highly recommend if you're visiting for a night.

Good very good. Especially if you like meat. And oysters. Crayfish salad also good. Forget the diet and budget. Enjoy.

Beautiful place to just sit, chat and enjoy some nice food. We got their steakhouse fries, spicy pork ribs and their wakanui scotch. Fries are well seasoned and crunchy! Pork ribs are well marinated and super tender! Sadly, the only downside will have to be the scotch, we asked for a medium rare but we got a medium well instead. Would give it another try though!

“The Chop” is an excellent dining or bar option. With excellent wine and cocktail options, the food is absolutely magnificent.
As the name suggest, your primary delights come in the form of Oysters done a few ways, or Beef via various cut options. Sauces and sides complement the meal exceptionally, and the whole package comes together with fantastic wait staff who are always attentive but never intrusive.
The environment holds options from being open and brash to cozy and quiet, and dining is not over-crowded by any form. The location by Auckland’s waterfront makes carrying on after your visit to The Chop provide you with options - but why would you go, this is a great spot.response / report this review -

Had a lovely time here. The salmon was delicious and I loved the creme brulee dessert. I felt that the sirloin steak could of come with some vegetables, but otherwise it was a nice environment and good service.

For me is "the place" where I like to have dinner every time when I arrive in Auckland Nice, great atmosphere, in the Harbour area Nice choice of wines, food and oysters.

Only had main courses. Was busy on arrival and we were offered a table with 30min wait. No problem passing the time in the bar and ordering our food. Lively noisy bar but restaurant much more tranquil. We were indeed seated in just under the half hour. Both had steaks cooked to our different tastes and both were excellent. Extensive but pricy wine list. Overall not a cheap night out but you definitely get What you pay for. Staff charming, complements to the chefs.

Great vibe and excellent quality produce. A bit pricey and the food took a while to get to the table but it was well worth the wait. Every dish on the table looked great and the staff were excellent.

Extremely disappointing.
Ordered a 1.2kg Tomahawk steak to share ($132), asked for it to be cooked medium and it was extremely rare (actually raw) in the middle. We asked for the slices that were raw to be taken back and cooked again - it was back on the table within 2mins still very rare but grey on the outside. We asked for it to be taken back a second time but not returned to us. Our South American waitress also tried to explain to us that that is how a medium cooked steak is presented in NZ??
Secondly, always be aware of half price oysters - we sent a few of them back as they were not great quality and made us feel a little queasy.
The manager did try to make good by surprising us with a free dessert (which we didn't want) and knocking off the 15% public holiday surcharge leaving us with a bill of $314 for a meal we did not enjoy ($100/wine).
I thanked the manager for her response to the situation but explained privately at the cash register that we weren't happy and she became very annoyed with me. We settled on knocking the steak down to $90 to reflect we had eaten about 2/3 of it - I wasn't really happy with this outcome and the manager certainly wasn't happy with it either. All in all just terrible customer service.
I've actually been here before with a large group on business and spent over $1,000 on dinner and been happy hence why I returned with my partner. I will not return and will advise my business associates not to either.
How supposed high end restaurants like this can get things so wrong is beyond me.response / report this review -

While touristy, this a good place if you have a group with non-seafood lovers as there is something on the menu for everyone. The service was good, complemented by nice ambiance and views. Our seafood was slightly overcooked though.

This is the first time I have ever left a comment to a restaurant review site.
Steak was very good, however we had to wait for almost an hour after asking twice as to when meals would arrive. Very embarrassing as I had customers in our group. Biggest disappointment was the attitude of the duty manager who must have known we were not happy and claimed he knew nothing. Would have been easy to offer a coffee on the house as a way of apologising. After spending $440 I will not be coming back here. Can not imagine The Grill acting like this.response / report this review -

Poor customer service. Booked a table for two at 11am to have Valentine's Day lunch. Arrived the restaurant at 11am spot on, and the male waiter who's arranging table outside the front entrance told us off straightaway saying they only open at 11:30am. I said I received a confirmation email saying 11am (which can be selected from the online booking system), he kept saying no no no impossible, and I showed him the confirmation email STATING 11am and then he said the kitchen would not be opened until 11:30am after he went inside to check again. Then only he offered to let us sit around until 11:30am. Well your company could have trained the staff to politely handle such situation and to not argue with customer about the booking time, and could have got us a table and let us study the menu, order drinks etc, and might have been 11:30am by the time we sat down, settled in and ordered food/drinks. Anyway we left the place and went to Soul and very much enjoyed our lunch. Please update your website booking system and train your staff!

The oyster bar staff were friendly and helpful. O&C have a great deal for happy hour oysters, but standard oysters you'll have to order by the doz - seems odd. Decent wine selection available.
