BEDBUGS!!! DO NOT STAY!!!
This hostel is infested with bed bugs. They will get into your bags, your clothes, anything. It is NOT worth the risk especially if you can't afford dry cleaning for hard-case luggage and backpacks too large to fit into dryers.
Stay somewhere else!!!! Anywhere else!!!
The night staff who had to deal with me at 4:30 am as I held out a live bedbug for him to inspect was extremely rude and in denial about the situation. He attempted to accuse the residents of the room for what he wants to call an "isolated incident," claiming that the bedbug was carried in on one of our bags.
It was not the three girls who arrived the night I found the bedbug, as I was being covered in new bites the night before. It was not my bag, which had just cleared biosecurity at the Auckland International Airport when all of my bags and the entire contents was searched and tested. If it was the last resident's bags, then the bedbugs had a full two weeks since arriving to infest the room.
NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT; INFESTATION.
Also; they're lying when they say they offer free wifi. Their wifi costs $4 per day and the "free wifi" is at a separate location, not at the hostel, but at a travel agency that they just happen to own. I am not surprised that a dishonest place is treating their bedbug infestation so carelessly.response / report this review -

The rooms were pretty small and the unisex bathroom/showers were really confined. Didn't really like the fact that they were unisex either. Most hostels I've stayed at are separate. The location is fantastic though.

Disappointing stay at Nomads. We've done a few hostels on our travels and this was probably down there with some of the worst ones. We paid for a private room which came with en-suite. The room was pretty small and basic but did it's job. The worst bit about the stay was the kitchen. It's very small compared to the size of the hostel and the number of people staying there meaning that it's almost impossible to make use of it during the evening due to the number of people cooking and eating. On top of this it's pretty dirty and and un-hygenic which puts you off cooking anyway. It seemed like most of the staff were live in travellers which is fine but means they're working in the hostel in exchange for free accommodation and they don't really care about the cleanliness or hygiene of the place and this is pretty evident. I would probably avoid this place in future to be honest.

Very basic, but therefore cheap hostel, which is what was looking for. Beds are pretty plain, but it's not too uncomfortable with parts of the blanket under you aswell. WiFi not free (for me it was 4NZ$ for 24h or 12NZ$ for 7 days). Good location, right next to the main street. Nice staff, but often waves of people check in so that they are busy for quite a while, this leaving you to wait. All in all pretty decent for its price.

The Nomads Auckland Backpackers was a great hostel. They were cheap, gave me a free upgrade and had free WiFi just outside the building. $4 for wifi in the building and $8 for washing clothes. The room came with towels and a free bar of soap.

The stay here was really fun. The staff was friendly, the rooms were pretty clean for a hostel. Staff was constantly cleaning, there was construction going on which was rather annoying but I appreciated the fact they were upgrading. Location was great as it was smack in the middle of Auckland and next to tons of great nightlife. I didn't like that it was a dry hostel but I'm not too sure if that's a pretty normal thing. I would stay again and recommend to any of my friends

The staff here were very friendly and helpful. 24 hour reception.
There is a rooftop terrace which has great views. It is a huge place, 7 floors and lots of dorms. Lots of bathrooms and they were always clean or being cleaned.
Only one lift and it took forever to turn up.
Kitchen is ridiculously small considering the few hundred people trying to use it at full capacity. Its very squashed, uncomfortable and definitely exceeds the fire regulations for the maximum number of people on a top floor.
Dorm rooms insanely cramped, not enough room to put luggage or bags anywhere.
I didn't find any in the two rooms we were in, but I did hear someone say there were bedbugs in the rooms on the 1st floor.
WiFi not free and very overpriced.
Excellent location right off Queen St.

Big and busy. Lots of rooms, packed with beds and a bit cramped. Lots of showers and toilets, in a bit of disrepair but renovation work was ongoing when we were there. Kitchen area is far too small for the number of people, any mealtime is a bit of a struggle. Decent lounge area. Near lots of bars and restaurants but means it's noisy at night with a club next door.

Location was ok but very noisy lots of people and the hot tub water had used condoms in it. Cleaner tried to cuddled up to me woke up to him touching himself. He was 5ft tall slim build brown hair. Please talk to him. Communal areas had cockroaches and mould growing. Was too disgusted to shower so I rolled in the puddles from the windows leaking in my room. All in all trust me don't take acid from the English guy in room 207. It's some good stuff.

My first week in New Zealand I spent at nomads. I met great people and have done some great stuff. Although the cleanliness of the premises aren't on point, the windows are very dirty, the sheets don't get changed completely. The shared area - the TV room - is too small and often packed with people who are sleeping. So if you need to Skype to your family, not really possible - you need to sit in the staircase. The kitchen is also too small and there is no place to sit except outside, if you do sit outside then hope for good weather.
The backpackers is very nicely situated on Fort Street and is very central.response / report this review
