I don't particularly want to give a bad review, however in this case after a long drive from Nelson and a rough ride on the interislander, arriving at Grand Mercure at 2200 exhausted, last thing we want to deal with is a hold on $100 from my credit card I can't spend until it's refunded (which can be up to 3 weeks and wasn't disclosed upon booking) incase I use the mini bar. Really, not a warm welcome being treated like a potential thief. That or your cashflow is poor. Left a sour taste in my mouth that lasted the whole stay. The room aside from a flash TV, fancy shower head and a large bed, was badly designed. Lights were a nightmare, the glass door separating toilet from bar was awkward.
And then the gym that doesn't exist.
Staff were friendly enough and rooms were clean.
Great new decor with very quiet comfortable rooms however the restaurant food let the hotel down as far as food quality and preparation goes. My pork belly was like rubber, the fat had not been rendered enough. Breakfast was luke warm in the buffet and tasted like it had been sitting there a long time even though I ate early, however the staff serving were great.
One of the best!! Enjoyed my stay and the meal. Lovely decor
Brilliant place with quick and extremely helpful services. Is brand new, so even better! Has good views from a smalliah hill top. Is an accor group hotel, so don't forget to bag your points whole staying here. Food services can be improved. Being new, fitness center and swimming pool is expected to open by September 17
We had a great stay here recently, the room was lovely, staff were great. As an Accor Club Member we recieved lots of great perks.
Rooms have obviously been made over and look flash but don't feel good. Door didn't open properly due to door stop having to be at odd place. They follow the silly trend of using sliding glass doors for the bathroom. Seems to amplify sound. No matter how much you love someone there's things you don't want to hear.
Terrible noise levels between rooms. Neighbours were playing music you could hear clearly and then got back at 4am and bonked for 2 hours.
Location is not near shops, restaurants etc
Staff save this from being a 1 star.
Never again.
Friendly helpful staff. Beautifully redecorated. Just a short walk to cuba st with interesting shops, restaurants etc.. quirky Cuba St.. love it!
Great staff and management but- noisy neighbour through connecting door, single glazing so cold damp windows, absolutely hopeless main lighting and useless reading lamps, but beds and food fantastic and porter/magician a bonus during fire emergency. I would not drive a big coach anywhere near here. Overall didn't hit its 5 star rating.
Recently renovated to a high standard and when we stayed they weren't quite open but staff were working hard to make our experience a good one. If you take a conference package make sure you don't have the dinner in the conference room - a change of scene is essential!
Great hotel! The team is really awesome Michaela and her associates have been 100% helpful, even arranging restaurant reservations and trip recommendations. I'm really impressed with the service and the food quality is great too. Overall, I'm very pleased and my 21-day stay has been great. I'll definitely come back.
Thanks!
Don't believe some of the older ratings this hotel is lovely and staff are so friendly and helpful. I was pleasantly surprised my room was modern and clean. The bathroom was very modern and the shower pressure excellent.
Well worth staying at if you want a quiet spot close to CBD.
Attended a conference and had some additional needs so I could express breastmilk for my baby: these guys were fantastic and very accommodating. As a conference facility it was great - really good room and temperature, natural light and catering was awesome.
Highly recommend.
Needs an upgrade badly. It still charges a 4 star rate but definitely a 3 star quality for cleanliness only as the rooms are just old in decor, everything about it was just old not vintage just OLD. There is a hair dryer that was probably made in the early 90s attached to the bathroom wall. Wasn't sure if it was even safe to use. The deserts don't order them. The only positive was the staff. Very lovely ladies at reception & at the bar. And even though it was on the steepest hill I started to enjoy hiking up in the mornings. They do have a bottom carpark elevator which helps a lot.
