Gates of Haast is a rocky gorge with series of rapids on the Haast River, cutting across the Haast Pass. t is sign posted on State Highway 6 at a single lane bridge, about halfway down a steep hill from the Haast Pass summit to the Pleasant Flat camping ground on the valley floor. There's a small car park at both sides of the bridge, where you can pull over to appreciate the scenery. If you are driving towards Wanaka, it is about 5-10 minutes drive from Thunder Creek Falls.

During our roadtrip from Queenstown to up North we pulled over to take a look around under the bridge. The river rapids are impressive and the outlook under the bridge is gorgeous. Pull the car over and enjoy the moment.

Simply stunning. Beware it is a one way bridge but has some parking on either side of the bridge. Definitely worth a stop and if you want to risk it you can run on the bridge to take a photo.

Very nice place to do a stop and watch the river. Unfortunately there is not much parking space on the lower side of the bridge but only from there you can go down to the river. You cannot walk over the bridge because there is only space for the cars.

A very powerful and beautiful symbol of the Haast pass. Do park in the proper area and do not cross the bridge on foot. Also note that you can head down to the lower level view area through a pathway on one side.
