  Was clean and comfortable. TV remote was alittle wonky. Room heater was ok, could have been better.

  Good place to stay the night. Nothing mutch around in Haast, but the hostel is great. A garden inside the hostel is a great place to hang out and play games when it's raining.

  Stayed in a backpacker room, had comfortable wooden bunk beds which is always way better because they don't squeak. Yeah it sucks about lack of cellphone reception, but that's just Haast so ompletely unrelated to the backpacker. The kitchen reasonably small but fine for the amount of people who are staying there, likewise in relation to cupboard and fridge space, was plenty for the numbers probably there. Lady who checked me in was friendly and there was a cool jungle room (photo) that had a games cupboard and light up speakers, bit strange but gave a cool vibe I guess.

  I may have been spoiled by YHA backpackers but here are my pros+cons points
  
  PROS:
  • soft but firm matress
  • clean all round
  • interesting "lounge" area
  
  CONS:
  • there's no cellphone reception
  • Internet isn't free – to get internet you have to insert your credit card details over a unsecured connection
  • single wall outlet per room – an outlet per bed is required in the dorms
  • single light per room – a light per bed would be better in the dorms
  • the kitchen cupboards aren't labeled
  • there are pots and pans for an army, but at least one mixing bowl would be nice
  • there isn't a lounge with a TV

  Nice hostel, comfortable beds, friendly staff, and cool looking social area. Points lost for paid WiFi and not enough sockets in the room.

  Penny pinchers. I was charged 7 dollars to wash a small load of laundry without use of the dryer. It's the first hostel I've stayed at that charges for coffee. The Internet is 5 dollars for a gig and it doesn't work in your room. Kitchen is inadequate. The owner's wife is needlessly rude. She appeares to hate every single person who steps foot in the hostel. Worse hostel experience in NZ. Incredibly disappointed.

  I have stayed here a few times - it's good value. There are a range of rooms, the staff are friendly and the facilities are pretty good. The kitchen is perhaps a little small but other than that the place is great.
