Fabulous motel. Great customer service and even free use of washing machine and dryer. Conveniently located 5 min drive from central Taupo. Motel is quiet. Room is fully equipped with everything you need. Backyard / front yard with Lake view.

What a wonderful stay we have had at the Chelmswood Motel in Taupo.
The owners were able to offer us accommodation in their lovely motel when they were heavily booked over the weekend.
During our stay it was our 40th wedding anniversary and after a great day sightseeing we came back to our room to find red roses and a box of chocolates on our table, rose petals and a heart shaped towel on our bed and a really nice bottle of local wine to have with our dinner.
Thank you so much guys for making not only our holiday from Australia so awesome but making out anniversary just that bit more special.
We'll definitely be back here next time we have the opportunity to visit beautiful Taupo. We'll make sure our Aussie mates also make the time to stay here and enjoy your very welcoming and warm hospitality.

A great stay option for families looking to explore Taupo and nearby areas for a couple of days. Each room has 5 beds with 3 at the bottom and 2 upstairs and so, it's a great option if you've got friends or family accompanying you.

Friendly staff. Outdoor pools are warm all year round and the thermal pool in rooms are so good. Family friendly. Great place to base yourself if traveling around central north island

This place is so much more than when you first see it or pass by it. I might have passed it about a dozen times over the years but didnt even give it a second look. But this is small wonder hidden in Taupo.it has friendly owners and many wonderful facilities. A heated outdoor swimmimg pool.at 37° it is definitely hot.an indoor plunge poolheated to your liking. Barbecueand quite a few of them all over. Above all our room was sea facing so the view was beautiful. I dont want to spoil the fun so I would only say this is a must visit if you're planning a holiday in Taupo or simply passing by.

Great service when we arrived. They went out of there way to accommodate the family. The room we stayed in was immaculate. The floors are thermally heated also As we are traveling in winter,nice touch. The car was frosted over in the morning. The staff even defrosted the windows for us. As we were about to depart. We were also given a bottle of water each for the journey. NZ hospitality at its finest, thank you.

DON'T STAY HERE!!! Coming from a friendly likeable guy.. Horrible people.. I'd have to say Iv never met people this fake and nasty.. Its actually embarrassing we have people like this representing our country.. Managers Richard and his wife Sandra are racist and nasty people and if you meet the owners you'll know why they got hired.. I aslo talked to their lovely cleaner staff and asked what they thought about them.. They had the same things to say.. Then I looked up the reviews.. And not to my surprise there were others saying the same.. Id be surprised if they have any friends at all.. I actually for sorry for them :(

So, Here's my breif experience with this place. Me (38 weeks pregnant), my partner (a very tired young man who has been driving for over 6hrs after finishing a long day at work), and our uncontrollably loud car, saw that this motel had vacancies (bare in mind it is 4:30am). So of course after hours of traveling, we pulled into this "nice" place thinking we might have a chance to rest up.
Us not being locals had no idea which way to go (parking wise) and realised we weren't as lucky as we thought. Before we were about to leave, a man in his chelmswood t shirt and pj pants comes out and complains that we woke him up and we were going to wake others up (we weren't doing it on purpose, our cars a twin turbo subi). After us apologising, because that wasn't our intentions, and asking if they had any vacancies, he just said no, gave a snark huff and walked away. I understand that it's 4:30am, I'm also tired, but we're just two teenagers trying to have a little fun before our son arrives. You sir are a sour old man. Sorry to say.
This is just my own experience, I'm sure many would actually enjoy their stay.

Waterfront rooms are comfy and clean and have nice mineral tubs that you fill at your leisure. Outside pool is kept at a nice temperature.

Decent rooms and location of you have a car to get into the main part of town which is only a five minute drive away.
Friendly staff.
I like that they have a strict visitor policy, great for keeping the noise down at night.
You can get breakfast delivered in the mornings and prices are comparable to Cafe.
The bed in the studio room is a double and inner sprung so are bouncy (I'm not used to this). Fan in the room is good to keep the room cool at night.

The Staff were friendly and helpful, the room comfortable, and the Thermal Bath was an added bonus! Loved our stay there, right opposite Lake Taupo! Xxx
