Wonderful atmosphere all enclosed by the mountains. Go with the weather - a clear day makes a huge difference to how spectacular things look. Village is small with little interconnected streets and walkways. The black Hermitage hotel is imposing and would look great in the snow.
Best place in nz one of the beautifulist place in the world!! I went here for a field trip in 2015 and now in 2017 i live here
Nice place to stay with great view. everything we need was there. especially microwave.
Beautiful hotel in a breathtaking location. We were upgraded to a room on 10th floor that opened up to stunning snow capped mountains. Room was modern, convenient, bathroom was excellent and we had binoculars in the room, which kids loved! We dined in a-la carte restaurant - food and service were superb.
Amazing snow capped mountains and great views everywhere you turn around. Best advice for stargazing - please prebook at least a week ahead and have a backup plan if it gets rescheduled.
I never try motel but it is very good, nice view, nice restaurant and yummy food!
Amazing walks, great views and plenty of accomodation though it does fill up so book ahead.
Beautiful valley, recommend a walk up to the Mueller hut for a night, fantastic views and great facilities
Tl;Dr - cheap, but would not recommend.
Pros:
cheap, near Mount Cook
Has a warm shower
Cons:
Service was not prompt
Rooms are extremely loud
There are inevitably be a tour group surrounding you
Sleeping on the bed is like sleeping in a canoe, it moves back and forth quite a bit
The balcony was deadlocked shut, which is clearly a fire hazard
Rooms are very out of date
Aoraki Mount Cook National Park is home of the highest mountains and the longest glaciers. It is alpine in the purest sense - with skyscraping peaks, glaciers and permanent snow fields, all set under a star-studded sky.
Do not miss this amazing trip, well worth the drive excellent food at the restaurant, remeber to book activities before you arrive or be disappointed as they are always booked out, not much to do other than hiking if you miss the tours.
Amazing and beautiful place. Weather was pretty clagged in when I was there but it was still well worth the visit and a nice little hike around.
Simply stunning. Words or photos can't do it justice. Visit and do some of the walks. The Kea and Tasman Glacier are short walks offering rewarding views once you get to the top. You won't regret it!
