Word of warning never rent a car via Ace Car Rentals. Got to Auckland on Thursday and rang the number to get their shuttle to pick us up. After 25 minutes on phone no answer so tried the 09 number no luck there. By this time they are showing as shut. Had to book another car via Avis who were great. Next day let's try Ace again well waste of time still not answering. Absolutely hopeless company. Ace Car rentals get your act together.

Great service from friendly team and good choice of cars at affordable prices. Still my top choice when arriving from Sydney. NB: arrived at very quiet time so didn't experience usual car rental check-in bugbears (queueing behind tourists asking banal questions).

I have been renting a car from this organization each year for almost 20 years now and have had nothing but great service from everyone there. I am particularly pleased with Shavani, she has been very good with handling anything that she is asked to do.

Very impressed, concerned that they were so cheap but without cause. The cars are not new but perfectly acceptable for the price.

Good service in Auckland: airport pickup and drop off prompt and courteous; counter staff polite and informative with getting and returning the car. Car was a Japanese import but as I ordered, tank showing full, newish with around 100k on the clock. New tyres; drove very well. The only problem is an odd policy they have which will not allow the use of a joint Visa or MasterCard that's also a debit card. I've used joint function cards regularly with other car rentals so can't see what the problem was, and neither could staff adequately explain it. So I had to pay an extra fee, that gets you wondering

Reasonable prices, excellent and helpful staff. The vehicle we rented was a few years old (doesn’t matter to me) and was in pretty good condition. The shuttle to/from Auckland International Airport is a nice bonus too. Would definitely use this company whenever I go back to NZ. Wish more car rental companies were like this.

Extremely poor service from management. My first ever trip to Auckland and sadly, I felt taken advantage of. I made my booking online and made partial payment to a third party network of ace rental. On arrival, I was told that because I am not using a credit card, I will have to take up the ace rental insurance and not their third party. I accepted it only because I was convinced by the representative that I will get my refund back from the third party.
Unfortunately to my dismay, that never happened. The ace rental representative called up the third party and attempted to get a refund but when she couldn't convince them to arrange for a refund, all she could afford was a sorry and the standard template response "it was in terms and conditions fine print etc" There was absolutely no remedy offered to me or even compensation of any sort. And because I have made full payment to ace rental by then, it was no longer in their best interest to get my refund back.
I have never felt more cheated on my first ever trip to NZ. I almost generalised the entire population based on this experience but thankfully I am blessed to see the positive side of the people too.
To the others out there, please don't compromise service for the price you pay. I'd rather pay more and receive a quality service than to be left stranded on my own.response / report this review -

I have been a faithful Ace rentals supporter for years.
We have so little power as consumers these days.
I am at Auckland airport Ace rentals to pick up the car.
I called for the shuttle pickup. It took over 15 minutes.
Okay, well at least my car will be ready.
Wrong.
The car isn’t ready and I also have to wait for it to be cleaned while I wait.
Verdict. Ace is great if you want a cheap car and have heaps of time, however, if you actually want the convenience of a rental car at the airport, go with one of the others.
Total rubbish.
If the car ain’t ready bro give one that is
Simple customer service.
Sadly appears to have gone from Ace rentals.
I heard it had been sold I now know it has lost its ability to serve as well.response / report this review -

Wow, the best car rental company in my life. I took the cheapest automatic car with the best insurance. They were super fast and efficient. No useless questions asked and no special car checks needed. Also I had no waiting times.

I upgraded to a mid-sized car and ended up with a Nissan with 172,000 KM on it. It didn't have any mechanical issues, but it was old and worn out. It smelled old, it rattled and jangled, it's suspension was loose, it was dirty and stained, it was not a good experience.
Also Ace has a lot of extra fees that aren't clearly advertised. I will definitely not use them again.response / report this review -

Rented from this place 2 times. Both times got what I rented and staff are helpful. Might be understaffed and a bit of a wait but nothing much. Even the shuttle driver is nice and friendly. Didnt get upgrade whatsoever but Car is good and they dont charge you for any bullshit stuff. Price is the cheapest I can find for a young driver. Not sure about experience using a debit card for a bond though as I have a credit card. Didnt add any extra cover but they didnt find any unnecessary things to charge me extra. Best place to rent IMO

Clean car. Got the one I ordered this time, brilliant! The office was very busy with customers coming and going every minute or so, despite this the staff were very friendly and polite and took the time to see you to your car.

I have been renting from ACE from over 18 years. That is correct 18 years. They have been great. Easier than owning a car and trying to store it when you're gone. They are dependable.
