This place is run by the former mayor and his family.
It's very cozy, but don't expect much when it comes to luxury.

Mario Ortiz is the owner and he'll gladly forward you to guides around the island, and has fat tire bikes to rent for $5 a day a pop.

He's living there with his family and does his best so that guests are treated very accommodatingly.

It's a big family who rents some rooms. I stayed there for 3 nights and had a nice time. They organize many different trips and are very helpful. Once i rented a horse (6$ for 1h). I payed 9$ per night for a single room. I think expensive for Nicaragua.

In the beginning i asked if it is possible to use the kitchen. Arch. said yes but later Mario, his dad, wanted to charge me 2 dollars since i was cooking beans and that uses more gas. Understandable. But then it is important to communicate that before. So pasta would be ok. I also felt that they would have prefered that i would have bought their food from the "restaurant". So a bit uncomfortable. There was no fan and mosquito net like one of the references said.

Lovely, lovely hosts and great place to stay. You get a feel for a local town while still very easily being able get to the touristy attractions.

We stayed here for 3 nights and loved the atmosphere at the place. The family are so welcoming and cook a really good breakfast! Achilles (host) helped us with organizing a guide to climb Volcan Concepcion which worked out perfect. If you are planning to stay here, don't expect a hotel. It's a friendly and comfortable place to stay for the money you pay!

I stayed at hospedaje Ortiz for one night while visiting Ometepe island. The family who owns and runs the place are awesome people! Extremely welcoming and kind. The room I had (for $6/night) was clean, comfortable and had a locking door.

They are super helpful with information about the island, nearby beaches and places to eat. I believe you can get breakfast at the hospedaje, but I left pretty early. If you want an experience living with a nice family on Ometepe, you must stay here! It was really nice to just sit in a rocking chair and listen to the sounds of baseball being played in the street, and wake up to a rooster cry. If you're looking for a resort type place, this isn't it. If you want to stay with a welcoming family, and experience life as it is in Altagracia, you've found the place.
