I really don't think this place deserves a bad review! I've read the other reviews left by other guests and just couldn't relate any of that to my experience! The place is perfect! Very welcoming host and just overall perfect place to stay :)

B&B fantastico, accogliente, piscina sempre pulita e personale simpatico e sempre pronto a dare consigli su cosa fare e dove andare a mangiare.

Just came back from my seven day family vacation to Playa del Carmen. We stayed at this BB because we thought it was the same villas picalu we stayed on 2012 well, the real truth is that there is nothing left from the old amazing villas picalu B&B. The real villas picalu was sold to Alberto and Sonia because The previous owners (Alejandrina and Roberto) expanded their business to Holbox island.
The previous owners were amazing people, they welcomed you and made you feel at home. The rooms were big and beautiful and There used to be fresh fruit, fresh juice, mexican bread, home made coffee and eggs in any way you wanted them INCLUDED in your breakfast. Well, sadly, there is nothing left now with the new ownership (Alberto and Sonia.) The location now is different and the home is less than average and needs maintenance. The rooms are very small and if you get the "suite" (the biggest room) it has an AC that is not enough to cool both rooms and one of the rooms is literally useless because it unbearably hot. The bathroom faucet had stains that looked like dirt but owners said it was just a problem they had with the water and they tried to clean a little more but it looked the same. The curtains do not cover the window completely and are very difficult to close or open, and every time you go out the room the AC turns off so you have to be turning it on many many times a day. The WC was the tiniest I have ever seen and it was completely uncomfortable because the cap will not stay up so it was a huuuge problem for my husband if you know what I mean. The couch in the room is old and it's broken.
If all that is not enough they have a dog in the home that Sonia told me was completly safe for my 3yo daughter to pet and without provocation he tried to bite her! they never apologized and just said "well, he is trying to know her".. i am pretty sure that with a bite a dog can "get to know" the taste of a child very well. We were planning to stay 6 nights but we could not stand it! so we managed to find another accommodation and we only stayed 4 sad nights. Sonia tried to be nice to us but Alberto was definitely rude and not welcoming at all. The parents of Sonia were staying there and they seemed to be angry with us all the time it seemed like they did not liked us to be there. Breakfast is practically nonexistent, everything is charged "extra" even the coffee!! can you believe it?unless you want the artificial jar coffee that you just mix with boiled water that tastes horrible. There is no fresh fruit ,"it's extra" and no fresh juice, "it's extra too". We asked for 2 eggs for my husband and two eggs for me and Alberto seemed to be annoyed to have to prepare it for us and he just gave us a single plate with the 4 eggs all together and told us to serve ourselves. We just had breakfast there the first morning and the next days we preferred to skip the "included" breakfast with them and went to have breakfast to a delicious local restaurant.
In general, my recommendation to STAY AWAY FROM THIS B&B. We have been in many B&B in Mexico, Spain, france and USA, because we love the welcoming feeling of a good B&B. Unfortunately this has been my worst experience. Owners definitely don't have a single idea on how to welcome the hosts and how to give the little extra that makes a host feel at home instead they ask the host to give the extra for them. And just lo let you know, I am pretty sure Alberto or Sonia will try to deny or make excuses about this bad review because that's what they have been doing with the other bad reviews. Their lack of sensitivity in their bitter and aggressive answers to the customer's bad reviews confirm the kind of treatment that you can expect if you stay here. Make yourself a favor and stay away.
