We LOVE The Tropical. Every time we're in Playa del Carmen we eat here. Always outstanding :)
Quick service good food. Tables were wobbly. Would go back
Great mexican food, cozy place, friendly staff, good prices, recommended!
This was the first place we ate when we got to Cancun. I had the ceviche to share and the chilaquiles. I was happy with my choices. They have a happy hour pretty much all day. Two beers or two blended drinks. It was reasonably priced and worth checking out.
The food is really fresh and good. Decoration is on point. Gives you an immersive experience with a nice seating patio upstairs.
Best margaritas in town! If you want a buzz this is the place to go!
Delicious! Agua Chile and Aranchera plate were perfect! Only missing A/C :p
By far the worst dinner I had in Playa Del Carmen. Shrimps were over cooked and dry. Margaritas were simply horrible. Stay away from this place
Amazing ceviche and shrimp aguachile. A little pricier but we'll worth it. Best mojito I had in Playa.
Great food and selection quality is way better than any high end fancy restaurant! You want genuine Mexican food and drinks, come here! Staff is great and manager was very attentive on making sure customers are taken care of and happy! Owdin, our waiter, was great and took care of us like family!
Stopped here for dinner and had a great time. My wife and I got a table during happy hour for dinner.
Drinks were 2 for 1 and the menu looked delicious. This place did not disappoint. I had the best cheese and spinach enchiladas I've ever had in my life (not exaggerating). My wife had the "whole fish" and enjoyed every bite.
There was also a live Mexican band playing an xylophone which added to the wonderful atmosphere of 5th Avenue. We sat on the street but, they also have a second floor for a more private feeling.
Overall, this is the best dinner spot we've found here in Playa del Carmen in the last week. Great food, drinks, atmosphere, and everything was priced appropriately.
Only had drinks there. Wreaked of grease walking up the stairs, but ok once we got upstairs. Good place to sit and people-watch on the main tourist street (tons of shopping, restaurants, bars, etc. all around).
The staff are really friendly and make the place quite welcoming. The tacos were solid although I found the bean and gaucomole portions that came with it to be small. The prices seemed high but I found that with most places on av. 5.
We got hooked with the "two for one happy hour" cocktails and local food. As we studied the menu, the lady from the table next to us gave back her fish because it tasted not good. (Hint 1) After realizing that the prices are very high for local cuisine (hint 2), we decided to leave after finishing our margaritas. As soon as we told the service staff we wouldn't eat, they took away our complimentary nachos! (Hint 3) When the bill came, they not only charged us for 2 margaritas, they also charged us almost double the price as advertised - although it supposed to be happy hour!! We were told that the drinks we got were special drinks, that's why they were $120/pc instead of $85/2pc during happy hour!?! Conclusion: this place is a tourist trap! On a location like that they always will have customers, no matter how bad their service and food is Avoid this place, there are much better places around!
P.S. While we were finishing our cocktails, two other tables got wrong or bad dishes and we've heard other customers arguing with the service.
Cocktails were fresh and delicious! Go for the two-for-on happy hour and get the guacamole
Amazingly fresh grilled whole snapper with a slightly crunchy texture and so flavorful. Loved the casual and tropical chiki hut tree house atmosphere right in Playa del Carmen. Original and local dishes. Every dish was really good and fresh. Reasonably priced. Very friendly personnel, including the owner, who came to our table several times and explained every dish.
