The Grand Riviera Princess is an excellent choice for a clean, family friendly, all inclusive resort. However, I took off 2 stars for the following reasons: 1) Beach Seaweed- normally I don't mind seaweed at the beach, after all, it naturally gets carried in from the sea. The management however neglects to even remove some of the seaweed, thus creating massive mounds of seaweed as well as the ubiquitous plant decay odor. 2) Buffet- Your dinner reservations, 24 hr sports bar, and daytime taco/burger man will save you here. The buffet is honestly no better than a school cafeteria in the USA. If possible, try to avoid raw food. 3) Drinks- after ordering a myriad of drinks, I came to the conclusion that the workers do not know alcohol portions. Drinks were either overly alcoholic or overly sweet. Order in moderation.
Stayed here for vacation near the end of March. Beautiful resort with all kinds of plants and animals. The plants were well kept, you would run into Koatis, Iguanas, Cats (late at night), even saw a crocodile! The staff was friendly and very accommodating. If you are a beach person you may not enjoy the constant seaweed on the beach. The effort by the resort was seen daily to try to get rid of it but it would keep coming back. Food was good, even the a la cartes we experienced were not bad. Shows were always fun and the pool and bars were amazing. We did not upgrade to a Platinum room (they have levels) because they did not have any available but we still had a great time. I would definitely recommend this resort in Riviera Maya.
Great resort for families as well as couples and singles. Can't say enough good comments for this resort, my family and friends (11 total) just got back today and we all enjoyed all this resort has to offer! Great selection of food, quality of service and amenities were fantastic.
For tipping I recommend to exchange money ahead of time as the hotel rarely has small bills (20 pesos) for tipping for the various staff workers.
The only issue I had was the beach front is kinda short and lots of see weed, (beach people might not enjoy this aspect but I'm sure it's weather dependant). Tons of pool areas however the resort should not allow people to reserve seats and simply leave them unattended for hours, super tough to find a seat during peak hours. Free wifi throughout the resort including your rooms which is a great feature. They also have private pools in the family area including bars, ice cream parlour, buffet, and a kids water park. This area is a premium for certain rooms, however they charge a daily fee of 150 pesos per person which is a really good deal considering the amenities, the pools in these areas are quiet and private. Special thanks to our server Carlos Gomez for looking after us!!
Absolutely beautiful resort, so much so that I ha e returned for a second time. The grounds are clean and pristine, the food is great for an all inclusive, and the beach is a beautiful turquoise blue when the weather cooperates. Staff are also wonderful and hard working to ensure everyone feels welcome and satisfied. The only improvement I could ask for is to the check-in process, although many groups arrived at the same time we were under the impression that upgrading to platinum granted an express process as it was noted when we made the purchase. This was non existent as our check in took nearly two hours of waiting in line. Other then that the place is great!
The Grand Riviera grounds are extensive and the property features about 4,000 rooms, a large spa and gym, 13 indoor bars, 3 swimming pool bars, 8 themed restaurants, 3 swimming pools, a Beach Club, 2 buffet restaurants and a Chill Out Beach Restaurant & Bar. It is large. There is a fleet of large golf car styled buses taking guests from each end of the property.
The hotel grounds and beach are beautiful which combined with hard working staff, takes care of the basics. In the tradition of all-inclusive resorts, the Grand Riviera provides diversity, simplicity and service to make you think the least possible. The quality of everything expect the service could be improved, however it consistently delivers a 3.5 star experience.
In the evenings, different shows and performances are staged in the centre square providing a good option for couples, adults, large groups and guests in general. Having visited the resort due to my parents vacationing there, I had the opportunity to stay in a standard junior suites and a platinum junior suite. The resort offers a platinum options which provide access to a dedicated buffet restaurant, larger and better appointed rooms. Depending on the length of your stay, booking the platinum is recommended
Beautiful resort, but brown beach water!
The resort is really beautiful: premises are well kept, rooms are clean and spacious, staff is friendly, food was fantastic and service was great. The only reason I would not recommend this hotel is because of the beach water. The water along the beachfront of the resort is this ugly brown color and when taking walks on the beach one would occasionally smell this sewer whiff, which leaves you wondering what that brown water really is. The whole purpose of going to the Caribbean is to enjoy its turquoise waters and not to swim in muddy murky waters. Unfortunately, my wife got very sick when we returned from vacation (bacterial infection), and while it could be a coincidence, I cannot help but wonder where she got this from. Bottom line, the resort is very nice, but if you go for the beach, looks elsewhere.i
We vacationed in riviera maya 3 times in the past 3 years, and this resort feels far below average. Like some of the other reviews mentioned, the room/amenity feel old and outdated. The food in the buffet doesn't change much (breakfast is the exact same every day), the other restaurants have average food, need reservation (and can only reserve up to 3 days in advance) and often don't fill up. There is a bit distance from room to pool/beach or restaurants. The pools have no play structures for kids, unless you're a family club member, and live in the separate section of the resort. The beach is crowded, rocky and dirty, with no bathroom. Service is lacking too, with a lot of staff speaking very little English, or familiar with the resort enough to be helpful (not knowing directions, room type/upgrade availability). The daily shows are amateurish. The resort is not smoking free, even for the family side of it. We don't recommend this resort, especially not to family with children.
Handicapped Rooms are not adequate. Rooms will only have the toilet door removed. Toilet is very low in height, arm bar is too high, no space for handicapped person to bring their wheelchair into these areas. Hotel management could not do anything. A week reservation resulted in only 2 nights stay and check out with no reimbursement.
Check in process to slow, and although aware of handicapped need, the first night no room was available.
Food is good. Beach has an area of rocks.
I found staff in the lobby where not as friendly.
It's a beautiful resort. The food is good. The drinks and bar staff are great. The ocean access is great. The biggest problem we had was the check-in process. Nothing was ready and the front desk was very understaffed. It took an hour and a half to check-in and get a room. The group that we came with also had the same experience. In some of their cases, their rooms were cancelled without notice.
This place is great! This is our 3rd time staying at this resort. We have stayed in the villas each time, and wouldn't stay in any other room. The service you receive is next to none, and goes far above and beyond expectations. The staff in the villa pool area are great, Margherita is the best server on the resort, she is nice, and welcoming. There is far too much to praise to give on a short review. I will absolutely stay here again in the future.
Went here two years ago for honeymoon, we loved it and always talk about going back. The room and the property were amazingly clean and beautiful. Lots of wildlife and awesome drinks. The shows were fun, and it was easy to set up rides into town and pick excursions. Staff was very friendly.
Only cons for us: Restaurants were not good. You had to make reservations, we went to two of them and did not enjoy the food at all. The buffet was much better and had amazing mangos. :) Hard to find a resort with amazing food in my opinion.
I don’t like to write a negative review but I should for this resort. My husband and I were very disappointed
1. I would give 0 star ⭐️ for this resort. The service was terrible. They didn’t help us with bags 💼
2. The restaurant was awful very bad, problem with reservation horrible (I understand All including )but One salad and one soup and one dessert for choice not tasty it was all restaurants the same .
3. The beach was very dirty brown color water and smell Like (old aggs ) a lot of stone . I not understand people who came to Mexico on vacation and all days swimming in the pool,
P.S in the pool I can swim at home come on :( Will never ever go again my bad experience. Last Year We were in Cancun in Sand Royal resort it was more more better 💯 % better and delicious restaurant .
the best resort. the staff is very professional and polite, the food was A+++++. the lady that clean our room ( Jazmin ) was the best. Great service. This trip was the first time in Mexico, and we are looking forward to go back next year. My wife and kids are very happy with this hotel.
We stayed here for vacation after or cruise was canceled last minute. We found the resort last minute and were a little bit nervous about it. We love this resort. We had a jacuzzi suite and it is fantastic. The staff are all so friendly and helpful. The food is also very good. Especially the themed restaurants. We would come back anytime. I think we would want to pay extra for the rooms that have pool access though. This resort is an A+++!!!
This resort has the potential to be great but the customer service is lacking. The resort offers all inclusive meals but a reservation is required for the main restaurants. I tried to reserve dinner for the week the first day I arrived and all the popular restaurants were filled to capacity so I had to take what ever restaurant with open slots which meant eating dinner at 9:15pm each day. The only restaurant open without reservation requirements was the buffet, which didn't have the best selection of food. When eating at the restaurants I notice many vacant seats. It felt like the reservations were to limit the people from jumping from place to place, lack of staff or to limit the "all inclusive" benefits. Aside from this the room was beautiful and cozy enough for a good nights sleep. The pools were very warm (not refreshing) and had many tiles missing. Certain buildings looked like it lacked maintenance and the drinks (liquor) were made weak. It seemed like they were trying to preserve the liquor. I stayed at the Grand Oasis in Cancun and the drinks were nice n strong. The resort does not offer a coffee shop although they offer coffee at the restaurants. The restaurants opened at 7am but the excursions offered leave at 7am which meant we could not have breakfast before leaving. The wait staff did not really pay attention to us, I finished my meals with one drink. I didn't get refills, it seemed like the wait staff was overwhelmed and their lack of enthusiasm confirmed it. I will not be visiting this resort again.
Would have 5 if not for the pushy timeshare guys. Room was very good. Haven't meet a mean or rude staff person the entire time. Restaurants were ok, buffet is good, but the street , tacos were the best. Pool and music very nice. Well worth it!
Large grand hotel. Great staff and nice rooms. Beautiful beach. So many pools. You need to know that they require reservations for the non buffet restaurants. However if it is only 2 of you remember this secretyou can just show up at the restaurant at anytime and ask the manager to please get you a table and they'll do it with zero resistance. Do not take the holiday club tourdefinitely not a value but the people are great.
This has been one of the best resort that I have ever been to because,
1.most of the staff are really nice and work really hard
2. In my opinion all the food was very good but the buffet at breakfast was ok I guess.
3.there is lots of stuff to do even Archery
4. Very big
5. The rooms are perfectly sized.
6. Beautiful scenery
7. My younger brother absolutely adored the kids club.
8. The pools were nice but they should build some waterslides for older age groups
9. The bartenders and waiters were very nice.
10. The drinks were good
There was only one thing that I really didn't like were the shows. The entertainment was there but the girls definitely needed more clothes or a warning with the shows sign because we took a 5 and 10 year old there.
The hotel and staff were fantastic. I would have given it 5 stars if it wasn't for all of the beach and pool chairs being reserved by guests all day. I can see leaving your towel for 30 minutes but placing a towel on a chair and never using it is ridiculous. It is quite frustrating walking around looking for an unreserved chair in a sea of pool chairs unoccupied, and when you finally find two side by side looking around to see that nearly none of those chairs are occupied during the four hours you are by the pool. The resort could easily enforce a rule of 30 minutes unoccupied and staff collect the beach towel.
Beautiful resort. Lots of walking from rooms to stores. Entertainment each night- excellent shows. Each night at the buffet was a theme. We had a swim up room. Highly recommended.
