With all of the beach centric options in SJD, it was refreshing to stay in a place that is in the middle of the Arts district and very walkable in town. The hotel is beautiful and that is matched only by the Hotel staff. Great stay.
We arrived after a long travel day to find I had mistakenly booked a room 2 weeks prior. The lovely manager did not charge me for the “no show”, quickly booked us into a bigger, nicer room, AND gave me a discount as the rates had gone down from the date I had booked. Could not have been more grateful and pleased with our customer service experience on top of which, the hotel is gorgeous and so well located! This wasn’t our first stay at El Encanto and it most certainly won’t be our last!
The inn rooms were a disappointment. While the website features the lovely suites, the inn rooms are down the street from the pool and suites. The lighting was terrible in the room with flickering fluorescent bulbs. The courtyard was well-lit all night with inadequate curtains to darken the room. The pillows were huge and very firm. I really wasn't comfortable during my stay. The benefits of this hotel are the pool, the location, and the generous breakfast included. I wouldn't bother unless you are planning to get a suite.
We had stayed here a few years ago, and thought we would be getting the same room that opens onto the courtyard. The booking didn't mention that it would be down and across the street. The room was fine (quiet and clean), but not what we thought we were getting. Receptionist was very nice, especially helpful upon checkout and helping us with a taxi. Will stay again, but will ask about the specific room.
The Good - The location is perfect if you want to stay in the art district. Reasonably quiet and the staff are wonderful. The poolside room was spacious hand had lots of charm. The pool and grounds are a little oasis with lots of flowers. Decent air conditioning in room
The Bad - The pool was very cold and the grounds need some grass to cover the dirt. (They put down some turf while we were there) Be aware that if you are not staying in the poolside rooms you may be disappointed. They are separate from the main hotel across the street. There is no spa at this time or restaurant although there are tons of good restaurants within a five-minute walk. The king size bed was comfortable but we found it to be way to hot.
Overall - This is a great little hotel and would be our first choice if we stayed in this area again. The best thing about this hotel is the location. There are lots of great galleries and restaurants right outside your door.
I own property in La Ventana. When I fly in from Canada I always make sure I stay with your hotel so I can decompress before I make the journey north. I don't really know what to say other then "Thank you" for providing me with such a great place to stay!
El Encanto was the perfect accommodations for my needs. Very comfortable bed, quiet, lovely pool with gardens.
The place e is charming. In the old part of San Jose "art district" it is traditional in its decor and appearance. Not a terrific pool bit a nice courtyard, with several restaurants on the property. Rooms are decorated in Adobe style. Service is scant. Not a luxury hotel.
We had a perfect relaxing getaway at El Encanto Inn. The garden and pool area is serene (it was worth it to upgrade to a pool suite). The Inn is conveniently located in the arts district of San Jose, close to fantastic restaurants like Lupita Tacos and Lolita. Alfredo and Carolina were friendly, helpful and dedicated staff who made our holiday stress-free. Recommend this place to anyone!
Beautiful place for a wedding and everyone was so helpful. Would definitely recommend having a special event there
Very nice place. Enchanting. Wonderful service, great location. Make sure you get a room in the main building, where the pool is.
Great. Got a beautiful upgrade by the pool. And they take dogs. New bar services the pool area. The Grounds are well kept as they maintain a rustic Mexican feel. Will return soon for another art walk.
