An interesting experience staying in a japanese paper house. There is a small garden behind the room. The toilet is very compact but modern.

The receptionists are so sincerely and they all dress kimono to make you feel Kyoto immediately. The place extremely nice if you really want to feel the traditional hostel. Every corner of the place is full of Zen. For sure will come again to escape from the commercial world for a moment!

The main building is lovely and breakfast is delicious but due to being an old building rooms are smaller than other ryokan I have stayed at and upkeep could be better. I was disappointed that the bath was not open regularly.

Very friendly staff and the room was comfortable but they seem disorganized and the place is a bit rough around the edges. Not sure why it would be difficult to acquire a cup of coffee in the morning sigh 😔

Beautiful place with extremely polite , English speaking staff. Very good breakfast.

    However it does lack polish:
-AC directly above sleeping mats, and rooms are too warm to even think about turning it off in summer.
-Only half of power socket reachable, rest covered with wooden bar /support
-Walls feel as if you could get a splinter just by touching it
-Speaking of walls, we had a nail poking out of drawer
-Very small bathroom, even by Japanese hotel standards.

Awesome experience. Small, Japanese style rooms with tatami and futons, great location (close to the train station, bus and subway - a good hub for sightseeing all over Kyoto while being located in one of those cool, quiet Japanese alleys) and amazingly friendly and helpful service. They go out of their way to make you enjoy your stay in Japan and really experience it. I don't want this place overrun by snobby, spoiled tourists complaining about lack of luxury (for 45$ or so) because this place doesn't deserve it so Ill set this straight - You will have to share the bathrooms and might have to forget about city views out the window and lavender smell in your room (although rooms are clean), but this place will help you experience Japan and genuine local hospitality way better than 100$+ dollar hotels and Ryokans , that is if you're a polite and open minded person and that's what you're after. Thinking about my stay there makes me feel warm inside and it was my best guest house/hostel staying experience, despite coming from K's house which is also great and rated the best hostel in Asia. Its just big and western, while this place is a true Japanese gem, that speaks fair English.
