Backpacker's Hostel Khaosan Kyoto is the best choice to stay in Kyoto considering the value. It has an excellent location, very near to the Gion district of Kyoto, also 2 minutes away of Teramachi shopping area. It's very clean and comfortable, the staff is very nice, and the atmosphere is simply awesome! It's unbelievable that this hostel ain't got a page on TripAdvisor ..yet, considering it was open in November 2010. Its concept is the mixture of modern Japanese design and traditional backpackers style, a great place to stay!
Great location. Decent price. Clean in general, but my room's AC unit could possibly use some cleaning though as it's smelled musty.
A nice enough place but for the prices you pay I'd expect MUCH better quality rooms. We had a double room and were paying $100 a night for something that I would have been happy paying $50 a night for, it was a very simple, small space.
If this place were cheaper I'd give it 4/5 stars
It's a great location; central area. The twin room is very small with two bunk beds, but ideal if you just need a place to sleep and don't want to be in dorms. Shared areas are clean and quiet guests are expected. There are only two washer/dryers and dozens of people here, with there only being certain hours you can use them, so plan to wait. Dry your things on the roof if you're certain there won't be a surprise rain shower, which there will be any day in late June/early July. They have great recommendations and the receptionists are all very helpful. After a few days it was home, and I would stay here again.
Khaosan is very Central, and by walking distance to many interesting places, including Nishiki market. The staff is very nice and all speak English. The rooms are clean (and smell fabulous), the beds comfortable and there are bathrooms and showers on every floor I believe. You get an assigned locker to your bed number so you can lock in your valuables. In the lobby there is information about noteworthy places to visit and restaurants to dine at. To sum it up, a very good hostel.
First off amazing staff ! So helpful and so nice . Bests are sooo comfortable. The rooms are cleaned daily the bathrooms are clean. The showers are nice . Just down the street from the main kyoto strip, and overall the best hostel I have ever been to! I will definitely be coming back!
Great prices, great rooms, and great amenities. And just a quick walk from the main strip in Kyoto
very kind manager and she speaks english very well. large room for watch tv and cook. But small room
Really nice hostel. The rooms were cheap and the staff was really helpful, they answered our touristic questions and even sell the bus-day pass to the customers, so you don't have to go to Kyoto station to get it.
Definitely a really good option for those who come to Kyoto with a tight budget.
I stayed here from 1.1 to 4.1 2014 and it was simply great. The hotel is very clean. Usually, if you are staying in a hostel, even in Japan, it tends not to be very clean. This one was! Showers, rooms,
I came on 1th January and upon arrival, I was offered new year's soup. Which was actually very nice!
The single room I stayed in was very small. Basically, just bed and about half meter from bed to the doors. But, because for me, hotel is usually place to spend a night and then go sightseeing the morning after, it is acceptable.
Unlike other hostels I stayed in, this one is very quiet, because of hotels policy. Which is a plus.
Very good location. Just few meters to subway station. From Kyoto station it's about 30 minutes of walking. Many spots are in walking distance.
I'd recommend this hostel to anyone, who wants good price, location and cleanliness.
