From outside (huge, really ugly building) we could not imagine how nice inside the hotel is. Very japanese style with great japanese hospitality. It has a nice outside bath (rotemburo), even a private one what can be booked for a small fee. Food is beautifully presented, although it is not very delicious. Problem is that there is nothing to do outside the building. The villaga has several ryokans, but all of them well passed their flashy days. There are no walking pathes, or anything else. We saw much nicer onsen towns on the way from Tokayama. Way too expensive.

Typical Ryokan located a bit far away from Takayama (trip takes 1'20'' in bus, 2010¥ per person). It has both public and private onsen that you will enjoy.
If you want to have dinner, you have to reserve it in advance.

A very traditional onsen hotel where you will be greeted and serve by one of the lady host. Everything is what you expect from an onsen hotel!
One thing that's uniquely different about this hotel is they have a Public OpenAir MIX BATH! Yes, "mix bath" as in male and female in the same open air public onsen with just a 5 min.shuttle ride away! (Please ensure you understand proper onsen etiquette if you decide to go!)response / report this review -
