It is a minimal hotel, but very sufficient for our purpose of just sleeping and enjoying Kyoto. The best thing about the hotel were its location close (10min walk) to the center of Kyoto and free rental on umbrellas. The weakest points were its very hard beds and the breakfast. We only got three little breads per person plus tea or coffee. Luckily there was a convenience store nearby where we could buy some additional breakfast.

Great location, walking to area around the Heian Shrine and temples farther east, Philosopher's Path. Functional but bare bones hotel. Like the common room with tea, coffee, water available, and tables for eating or using laptop.

The location is perfect, very close to some major sights and the Gion district, but in a quiet and safe side street. The room was large and clean, everything works just fine, in an efficient and no-nonsense manner. There are some minor conveniences that are really nice and add much comfort for the budget traveller: the free mini croissants for breakfast, the comfortable sitting area and kitchen where you can make and eat your "seven-eleven dinner", the free umbrellas when it rains, and the superb free laundry facilities. All this for very reasonable room rates. We stayed for 4 nights and would have stayed one more but the hotel was fully booked. Will definitely stay there the next time we go to Kyoto. Book early. There is no JR station in walking distance, but you'll end up using the buses in Kyoto anyway.

Loved it to bits for location (near train station), simple breakfast and helpful staff. It's right in Higashiyama the historic district so I could walk to Kiyomizu (25 mins) as well as the Silver Temple (50 mins). Has a laundry room and massage chairs although no elevator.

Best value for money in Kyoto. Our double room was 5000¥ a night including a small breakfast, a rental Yukata, small breakfast and use of washer/dryer. Staff spoke good English and the Gion district is 10 minutes walk away with the Chion temple right around the corner.

Great, affordable place to stay. Simple accommodations, excellent friendly service, massage chair in lobby is a bonus.
