It's a perfect spot to get sorted out and spend a night. We headed here from Reykjavik in a camper we rented for a couple weeks. The location is great and it has what you need. For us in early September there weren't many people until later in the day. If you get here early you have it to yourself. There is some nice walking trails close by and the scenery is beautiful.

A great place to stay. Very clean and has a fair amount of bathrooms/showers. The only thing is they close at 6 so if you miss them when they are open, someone later in the evening will knock on your camper to pay.

Nice location, but quite crowded in summer. They only have 2 showers and 3 toilets for the main site. That means a lot of queuing at rush hour. They do have a sheltered area with benches. And nice grassy sites.

We did not stay here but we did stop to see the facilities. These facilities were open to campers in April 2017. Well kept grounds and buildings. Excellent proximity to the park. Can accommodate a number of campers during peak season.

We really liked this spot, convenient to local sights, the campground had showers, but no kitchen. It was very reasonable too, with discounts for seniors and children.

It's a beautiful place. Tourist information guys were super friendly (we spoke for an hour) and the bathroom and showers were very clean and equipped (both bathroom had heated floor)

If you're interested in history of Iceland take the free tour starting at the old church. The guide was really professional and entertaining.

Spacious campground right next to the visitor's center. It's not the prettiest or most secluded, but there's a lot of space, some picnic tables, a few sinks and bathrooms and showers, and a laundry room to wash/dry clothes. Camping gas is sold in the shop right next door, and it's a short walk from Thingvellir's hikes and sights.
