Perfect. I didn't want to leave. I love the common areas. There is a kitchen pool table and hang out area in basement for more of a hostel feel. There is a "bar" cafe area where you can order food. Not crazy expensive. For 2 beers, an appetizer and 2 pizzas we paiod around $70, which is nnot nearly as much as many places asked. The ambiance is that of peace. Shared showers on second floor. Doors close very loud. Only complaint wasnt even one to direct at the hotel. A family. On the same floor as us had..well.. Poor aim And every time we went in the third floor bathroom they had poorly aimed all over the toilet seat and surrounding floor. We opted for the adorable second floor restrooms and had no trouble with getting in when we needed to. The staff was very friendly and provided info about the surrounding area. You get a discount at hot spring down the street too if you mention where you are staying and show your key.
Great place. Small but cosy rooms. Living rooms like to be at home or your grandmothers home. Located in fantastic nature and in a walking distance to the spa.
Very pleasantly surprised by the character of what was previously a school - very clean inside and out (helped by everyone having to take their shoes off at the door, swapping them for the supplied slippers) and full of random historical objects & books as well as quiet hideaways on the ground floor and basements which are definitely worth exploring. Rooms are pretty basic as you'd expect and were quiet for the most part with everyone following the night-time noise curfew and generally being good neighbours. On-site facilities are fine, if pretty basic - the one simple meal of pizza we ate there was, well, you can't really go wrong with a pizza can you? :) Free WiFi was really fast and shared kitchen / shower rooms / toilets were clean and functional. Only slight negative point (for males at least) was having to go down to the basement via the eating areas for the male showers rather than them being on the 2nd floor we were on. If you get chance, a few hours at the open air hot spring fed baths just down the road is well worth it. Definitely recommended.
A little quaint hostel with an entire restaurant inside that you can eat in even without staying. I stayed one night and went back the next day for lunch and used the bathrooms to change after a rainy hike. It feels very homey and the beds are comfortable enough. They provide slippers since their policy is no shoes. The hostel itself is downstairs and the WiFi isn’t great down there and there isn’t a key to the room, so maybe not the most secure. Overall I’d stay again though.
Good value for money. Nice staff and clean. Iceland is just so darned expensive. Some conveniences missing or it would get 5 stars.
It's like you stepped back in time. Very vintage setting. Peaceful and relaxing environment. The staff was helpful with information regarding places to visit and things to do.
Cute little spot across the road from Golden circle apartments. Food isn't brilliant but it's ok. Like everything in Iceland, the prices are ridiculously high. Cute and cosy dining room and a nice little sitting room for drinks, coffee and reading and chatting with vintage decor.
This place is very lovely and charming. They decorate with old antiques and pictures, the rooms are warm on cold winter nights, and the staff is fantastic. Included in the room is a handy guide telling you everything there is to do, not only in the golden circle but also locally. I was only supposed to stay one night here but extended it to two days.
Clean beds and rooms and showers. They have a restaurant in it for dinner and breakfast. Food tasted great. Enjoyed our stay here
First time in a hostel and what a great experience. Staff was friendly, the whole place was cozy with a gorgous view right outside. Went there (Iceland) for my grandmother's 90th along with my cousins and we had a blast. Thank you for the hospitality!
This hostel was clean, quiet, and easy to find. The building was cute and decorated with old ephemera. The staff were nice. One thing we didn't like was how much they insisted on reiterating the house rules. We're good, clean people. We don't need to be treated like we're being watched and are bad people. Breakfast was a standard Icelandic hostel breakfast with waffle station (1900isk)
We had a lot of expectations which unfortunately were not met. The bed in this hostel was not clean. Upon arrival, we found hair in the bed. The sheets, supposed to be white, were yellow from grease and contained a lot of lumps. We requested new bed sheets and offered to change them by ourselves. The answer we received was that this isn't a 5-Star hotel. We were visibly upset and nothing was done to comfort us. A huge disappointment.
Despite this, the location was good. The food was very good, especially the pizza.
The best hostel in Iceland!! Super clean, amazing bad, wonderful breakfast, beautiful view between a lake and a mountain, usually has open sky to see the northern lights. Beautiful beautiful beautiful.
The best place of the area. An old school that now is a hostel. Comfortable, cozy and peaceful. A great place to rest and have something tasty to eat after your Icelandic trip. One of the best things on the place is the staff, kind and helpful. In addition Heradsskolinn is a historic building worth paying a visit. Surrounded by an idyllic landscape, an old volcano, mountains and lakes. Everything makes Heradsskolinn the perfect place to stop during your visit to the most amazing and outstanding country in this universe: Iceland.
My grandma studied there 70 years ago and she says it still reminded her of it was then. Plus, the food is amazing.
Really lovely place, they have managed to restore it beautifully and kept some of the old things which made it modern with a vintage charm. Staff was friendly and welcoming. We enjoyed our stay.
We stayed here 4 nights and just loved it. The rooms are cozy, and bright with either great views of the mountains or the lake. The staff are the most friendly and the breakfast buffet was super good. I love that you have to take your shoes off in the hostel too; so unique. Dinner prices are pretty normal for the area, 3400 isk for Fish; they even have reindeer meatballs which were very good. There are a few bathrooms and showers on the second floor and additional ones in the basement, along with a kitchen and fridge available for you to use. Great place for a hostel and the historical aspect is just an additional touch!
Nice but noisy. Do not stay if you want to sleep. The hotel is most a cool hostel. The room doors are extremely noisy when opening or closing them. The walls in between the rooms are thin enough to hear a conversation, and we had a big family room beside our double, so we could not sleep due to the noise. I complain and ask for another room, bit they told me I had to pay the difference for the private bathroom. Very dissapointed!! The staff is a group of young people that obviously do not have any professional formation to run a "boutique hotel", as they call it. The building is really beautiful, and lot of share space. The kitchen does not have oven, so cannot cook just reheat. The breakfast is 20$, overpriced as everything in the island.
Very nice hotel in an old school building. You can see that somebody put his mind into style an design of the hotel with traditional school items placed everywhere.
They offer a shared kitchen, however, the stove is missing which limits your cooking possibilities.
We took the breakfast option for 18€ / Pers. The breakfast offered a good selection (including salmon, pancakes). I would recommend taking it.
Great hostel! Cosy environment and friendly staff. If you are exploring the Golden Circle area, I would definitely recommend it.
Very nice and clean place. Besides, it is next door to the famous Fontana spa. We enjoyed it very much.
Super friendly hostel on the golden circle. Room was nice and beds were comfortable. Kitchen served really good food. The Icelandic lamb was really good and the breakfast had a great selection of meats, cheeses, and bread.
I can't Share the opinion of the Guy who just awarded one star. This Hostel is the very best of our Trip so far! The staff is very friendly and open hearted! The Building is Great! It's an old school renewed three years ago. Everything is very tidy. They serve Great Dinner and the choice at breakfast is huge. They even have a pancake machine! Next to the diningroom is a nicely decorated Library. Rooms/Beds/Toilets/Showers all clean. Hot pot right next to it.
We only came here for food, but we ended up coming here 3 times in the end. Good quality food, served quickly. But the best part of the boutique hostel is the staff. I think they may be the friendliest people in Iceland. Thoroughly recommend it here 😊
