It is fairly clean, but run down and ragged too. Checking in at the main house was scary. The houses look like shacks. You have to awkwardly ring the bell or enter the owner's house to "check in" and get the keys. It was a smelly gross mess and I paid with credit card in the kitchen, which was uncomfortable. The guest house is down the driveway a little further and is much cleaner. They have clearly put a lot of work into renovating it, but it is a run down, falling apart property.
Rain comes in through the windows, the wind makes everything shake and creak, tons of mold on the bathroom ceiling, the walls look like they are falling apart at the baseboards, pictures and light fixtures are hanging off the walls with wires showing, very few outlets for charging devices. The positives are that most of the floors are clean and new, the linens seemed clean, and the owners have attempted to decorate to make it feel like home. But the showers are pretty scary looking and there are only two with potentially two families and four other guests there at once.
When it's windy (every day) the bedroom doors and windows all rattle, making it difficult to sleep. Even the refrigerator and stove are dirty and falling apart.
This place is located about 10 minutes from Route 1 and is easy to find if you have both names (Thykkvibaer and Frakkur).
Although it was okay, it was not comfortable and I wouldn't recommend it. I looked forward to getting back into hostels for the remainder of my trip.response / report this review -

Nice and warm place. Really appreciated especially the warm room, because it can get very cold in Iceland. Prices are very cheap for that area in Iceland. Rooms as well as the shared bathroom are clean. Didn't use the kitchen but it loos nice too. Parking is right in front of the guesthouse.

When you are in Iceland to enjoy the beauty and the pure nature in a wonderful cozy house with an amazing view, then this is your place to be. We loved it from the first moment and booked another night! Lovely dog, lovely hosts and we even got to see the northern lights!
If you are looking for luxury and are complaining about everything, then you should stay in Reykjavik I guess. I love the place and the landscape around Sure to come back again in summer :)response / report this review -

What a lovely place. The owners live at the farm next door. We were here during wintertime and the landscape that surrounds us is pretty awesome! there are horses and a lot of trails in that area.
the guesthouse is really really cosy, we love it. big windows in kitchen and dining area whith a great view. the kitchen is big and clean. and so are the bathrooms. one bigger and one smaller. towels are there and laundry is for free, wich is great. we have a sink in our bedroom. beds are comfortable and the rooms are clean!

Abbiamo disdetto la prenotazione ma siamo stati in questa struttura. Al nostro arrivo non c'era nessuno ad accoglierci e la reception era un covo di sporcizia e disordine. Siamo entrati nella parte ricettiva e le camere erano piccolissime. Bagni sporchini e bruttissimi.

Nous avons pris une chambre en dernier recours car tout était complet dans les environs. Accueil très froid du genre : "les clés sont là, ça fera tant". Nous avons payé 135€ pour deux fin septembre. La chambre est très petite, les sanitaires communs mais pas propres et très mal conçus. Le tout très mal isolé.

Nous avons passé une nuit exécrable dans cet endroit. La chambre était minuscule. La salle de bain n'était pas très propre, la douche était bouchée et les toilettes fuyaient. En revanche la cuisine est propre et bien équipée.

Very expensive, not worth the money by far. Small rooms, old and dirty bathroom. You can hear the people in other rooms. No breakfast. Only go here as a last resort.

Guesthouse down the road from family home. The rooms themselves were clean and towels provided however they were expensive and the kitchen facilities were lacking - basics such as the kettle didn't work.
