Would recommend this over the Blue Lagoon, great surroundings, clean water and less tourists! Though if you're from Iceland this is the same as most public pools!
There's shower gel, shampoo and conditioner. And for an additional fee, a reasonable buffet (see photos).
During summer it opens at 10am, but in Winter (up to June) it's 11am!
Even though these are not natural geothermal springs but the setup is delightful and the price is right. There is a lot of parking and views are decent (lake view). Love the idea that they let you jump into the lake before going into their hot pools. The buffet is also priced very well (lunch and dinner).
So nice! Less tourists than Blue Lagoon, however still maintains that Iclandic spa feel. At the base of a mountain this pool has several hot tubs filled with hot water at varying temperatures. There is a natural lake attached for a refreshing dip if you get too hot. There are also multiple steam rooms and a sauna to get even hotter or warm up after your dip in the lake. One of the main attractions is it's bakery with fresh bread and pastries cooked using geothermal heat.
This was certainly one of the highlights of our trip, and we didn't even use the spa! We opted to take the geothermal bakery tour which I cannot recommend enough. They take you down to the water where the bread bakes under the sand for 24 hours. We watched as she dug a loaf out, got some pictures, and went back to taste it. I'm pretty sure this bread is my new addiction IT WAS SO GOOD.
Very nice geothermal spa. Not busy and very quiet. In addition, I forgot my credit card with them and they did everything they could to return it to me asap. I received my credit card back in Reykjavik 3 hours later, which is awesome. Employees will do everything to make you feel happy and enjoy the place.
One of my favourite places we visited in Iceland. A little expensive but so worthwhile. Ate dinner here as well as using the hot springs, the food was very tasty with a good variety.
The pools themselves were awesome! We came here in late July, got to the spa in the evening and stayed until close. It never got dark enough to hinder us, and while it rained the entire time we were at the spa it just made the experience that much more refreshing.
We were both too chicken to go into the lake!
This was a really fun stop on our recent trip. It's more expensive than other hot springs, but it was convenient and worthwhile for our family. We didn't eat food there, but only went to the pools. The layout of the pools is nice, but I wish the hotter pool was larger. That's where everyone congregates, but it's a smaller pool than the others combined. It's a great place for kids as well, since there is a shallow pool for them with some waterfalls and such. Our family really enjoyed the experience, but anticipate a lot of tourists unless you go at less popular times.
Beautiful warm natural hot pool. Very large. Outdoors. Dressing rooms are pretty basic. Suggest you bring water shoes and I brought a super absorbent towel. The towel they provide you is not good. Bring your own toiletries.
Really nice natural geothermal spa. Not at all crowded. Towels avail to rent. Half the price of blue lagoon but you are sat in manufactured pools fed by the springs rather than sitting in the Lake itself. 3 different pools32, 34 and 38-40 degree C. That said you can get into the lake for the more natural effect. I did. It was coldVERY cold.
They have steam roomsdirectly above the springs. Sauna cafe and restaurant and the changing facilities are great. Free lockers. Hair driers and good quality showers with shampoo, shower gel, conditioner and hand cream.
Thoroughly recommend if you like peace and quiet. But if you want natural as in a hole in the groundkeep looking😀
Admission is good for a day. We went and came back later. Really nice facilities, clean, well maintained, and high quality. Sauna was awesome with a view of the lake. 3 steam rooms with different temperatures were easy to adjust to. The dip in the lake was really refreshing.
Excellent experience, swim in the icy lake, then warm up in one of the 3 hot pools or steam sauna, grab a cleansing shower with locally sourced showering products (you'll smell fab), then relax in the cafe for a well earned meal - good food and good value buffet by Icelandic standards.
Much better than the crowded Blue Lagoon. Arrived early and had the place to ourselves for the first hour, so peaceful and relaxing 😀
Amazing! We had the best time here! We went at about 5pm and there were few others in the pools. It’s lovey and warm and a great way to soak your body after a long day touring!
Pro-tip: leave your card behind the bar at check in if you fancy a drink in the pool. Otherwise you have to run back to the change rooms cold and wet to get it!
Nice restaurant, lake side. Clean restrooms.
Awesome views. Geothermal bakery. Yes, they put dough and other foods in a pot and bury it in the erupting water geyser. Works like a champ. The rye bread was awesome.
Also a swimming pool and spa.
The "earth baked" rye bread was better than their hot springs. It is more than half-way to a pound cake, yet still somehow distinctly a bread. We didn't hit many other geothermal spas, so the sauna was a pleasant surprise. The pools were pretty standard man-made affairs, and the temperatures a touch overly controlled. I think I'd just been hoping for something similar to the atmosphere experienced at the other spa we visited. Despite all this it was quite a nice soak :)
Really nice hot springs! Multiple hot tubs, steam rooms and a beautiful sauna. They also serve rye bread baked on the beach in a hot spring.
Wonderful! Even if just for the rye bread experience tour. The bread is baked in the hot black sands, they pull it out and serve it up. As fresh as it gets! The guide was wonderful and we'll be returning in the evening for the steam baths.
Worth the drive. This place is a lot less commercialised than the Blue Lagoon and underrated. You can't book, it's walk ins only, so it's great if the Blue Lagoon has been booked out (which if usually is for a good few weeks). They also have all the essentials in their changing rooms like hair dryers
Cute little place with way fewer people than the other places. One of the pools was closed (still had the lake plus 3 pools, steam rooms, and sauna!) so they gave us 2 for 1 entrance, it was great!
Two straight lines of pools with temperatures between 32℃ and 40℃, one sauna and three steam bath cabins. The spa tells at the entrance that it is not allowed to jump into the lake just outside the fence but people still do so to cool down after sauna, so at own risk. Great showers with free shower gel , shampoo and conditioner. There is a spin dryer for wet swim suits. The pools need thorough cleaning in my opinion; grime on the tiles. Expensive entrance fee for such a small place but not so exciting.
There are several pools, most of which are really shallow (1-2 feet deep), so not really a place to go to float around. We spent most of our time in the two more heated pools, one a "natural" stone one closer to the lake and the second the elevated tiled hot tub. The saunas were nice, and we actually braved wading into the lake, which was a really fun experience.
Arrived when it opened and had the place to ourselves for a while. Great experience. A little smaller than expected. Good for families as well as peace-seeking adults.
This spa is medium sized with a large kids pool at the front. The lockers are very well maintained and it is not too crowded. The view is beautiful and you are free to roam from pool to pool and sauna to sauna as you please with no time limit (:
They charge for towels and you have to go inside (dry off and everything) to get a beverage which is not ideal.
I loved my time at Laugarvatn Fontana.
This was the third of three springs my wife and I hit during out trip and I would rank it second only to Blue Lagoon. LF is set beside a lake that you can jump in to cool off between the verying temperatures of the hot pools. The pools here are man made but the water is heated naturally.
The showers are clean, but communal as is often the case at these spas. The scenery is beautiful; be sure you go to the rooftop observation deck before you leave for a 360 view of the lake, mountains, and town.
This is a wonderful place to relax and warm up for a few hours. The pools are great, and if you feel up to it, you can also jump in the freezing lake! The facilities were very clean, and the staff were helpful.
The pools are small. Get a bit crowded. The sauna not hot enough. Wish the water in the pools are hotter. Better to go to the pool before eating. View from the pool is beautiful. Be careful the floor in the shower area are slippery. Bring own towels as they don't provide. Need to rent the towels.
Great food. Sauna was hot. There are multiple springs and pools and you can get nice drinks in the waters. Going in the cold Lake is refreshing. Highly recommended.
Not as busy as the blue lagoon. Changing rooms are clean but no cubicles to change in (normal for iceland). The pools are clean and there are plenty of variety. The hot tub has great views over the lake. The surroundings are beautiful. The steam rooms and sauna are great as well.
This is a great alternative to the blue lagoon and is very popular with the local people.
We had a beautiful evening. A nice buffet dinner. We especially enjoyed the beet root sour cream soup. The pools were delightful with beautiful views. And the night was capped off with an awesome Northern Lights display overhead.
This place is incredible! The lunch buffet was amazing and the pools were the icing on the cake. Situated right next to a lake the brave hearted (including my wife and I) took an icy dip in the lake before running back over to the warm pools. There's also a steam room and sauna. You will be required to shower before entering the pools but that shouldn't be uncommon to you if your visiting. Definitely a must see! My wife and I loved this place.
