DO NOT STAY HERE.
The one redeeming feature of this hotel is the buffet breakfast. I thought it was very good.
That's it.
The "rooms" (and I use the term loosely) are tiny, I've been in bigger toilets than those things. Our twin room was 6ft by 10ft including the ensuite. The tiny shower we had was stained from the floor to ceiling with mildew and the shower head as you can see from the photo was on the verge of breaking.
The hotel seems to cater for bus tours whose operators have booked this travesty of accommodation for them, they seemed all to eager to leave come the next morning.
If the cancellation policy for this hotel wasn't so abominable then I would have left and walked in somewhere else, it's that bad.
Apparently the hotel restaurant is good, but I refused to give this "hotel" any extra money.

Here for the location and amazingly scenic views
I should preface my review with a note on how absolutely amazing the area around Lake Myvatn is. The hotel sits on the Lake with a fantastic view from the restaurant. Behind he hotel is a walking trail that brings you through a number of Suedo Craters and a fantastic view of the Lake and surrounding mountains.
The view alone is worth 5 stars. The staff are extremely friendly and very helpful. The food for dinner was good, and like the rest of Iceland very high priced. So the hotel has great location on the Lake, very scenic views, close to all the local hiking attractions and good food. What isn't mentioned anywhere is the size of the rooms. They are dormitory small. There are single rooms with 1 twin bed and twin room with 2 twin beds.

Overall I will give it a 4, as long as you know to expect that the rooms will be small. If you are expecting space to lounge in the room with 2 or more people comfortably then you should hang out down stairs. Or better yet go out walking and see the views.
Don't let the room size overwhelm you and just enjoy where you are. One final note the room gets warm. The windows open at the top, I highly recommend you open these asap. You may even want to open your door to allow cross ventilation after you shower. Ah, final final note. The hot water in Iceland does have a stronger sulfuric scent. It's ok. But in such a small space you may not want to be in the room when another is showering.response / report this review -

As many of the previous posters mentioned, the rooms here are very small. We could only have one suitcase in the room and left the other one in the car. The main issue we had with this hotel was the bathroom It was covered in mildew. I peeked in a few other rooms and they all have mildew all over because there is no ventilation. I'm not sure how that would meet building codes in Iceland, but it definitely wouldn't pass in the States. This was one of the pricier stays so I expected a much higher caliber of hotel. The breakfast was very tasty and we also had a snack in the bar in the afternoon which was very good. The location is quite secluded but gorgeous views over Lake Myvatn. We also enjoyed the hiking, despite the sulfur smell and pesty flies which are prevalent in the area. All in all, I would skip staying in the Myvatn area and just stay in Akureyri, which is about and hour away.

Very small rooms (no more than 12qm including a tiny bathroom) for unreasonable highprices. At least the breakfast area and dinner restaurant are pretty decent and offer a great view over the lake. Breakfast was okay, the dinner as well, but I would have expected a bit more for the price.

Not a big room, but what a view. We were lucky to have a room with a view on the lake and the sheep walking in front of our window outside.
Nice breakfast and dinner, the room where you eat has a great view.
Only the smell from the water in the shower wasn't pleasurable, but hey say you have this at more places in this area because of the sulfur.response / report this review -

Restaurant is pretty good. Rooms are a little small even by European standards. Some nice views, can go for a very scenic walk just behind the hotel.

Worst price-performance ratio we found in Iceland! Totally overpriced for a tiny room, furniture of cheapest fiberboard (lots of IKEA), cheap blankets, bathroom without ventilation, therefore entire room was smelly! Only the restaurant has view over the lake, room to the parking lot was very loud at night. Breakfast of low quality as well. NO GO FOR THIS RATES!

Decent views, clean and cozy, good food, tiny room with separate beds. The staff was very friendly, helpful and informative. We had a good 2 night stay here - excellent access to the Lake Myvatn area - our only complaint was that the room was so tiny that we were in separate single beds without even the option of pushing them together. Overall though not a bad stay and a beautiful location.
