I only put 1 star to grab your attention! We never made it to the falls! Road impassable in 4x4 (I will never slag off my Dacia Duster again after she got us through that 😁) due to deep water on track about 6km away. Very scary, nearly got stuck with wife and kid in vehicle. Couldn't judge depth of water due to thin ice layer on top, definitely up to wheel arches! From other reviews I'm sure this is a stunning place but be careful if trying to get there any way other than on foot. You can forget about AA recovery - you are miles from civilization (that's the appeal!). On same day Gjain also impassable by vehicle.
An absolute must-see: more off the beaten track, and so you will experience a gorgeous and huge waterfall with few people (and maybe get lucky, and have no other soul in sight, as we did!)
The views in Haifoss is so incredibly vast it makes you feel like an ant. Definitely worth the long trek on a rough unpaved dirt road to get here. Don't worry about not having a 4x4, as long as your vehicle is higher off the ground like an SUV you'll be fine. We went on a Toyota RAV4 with no issues, albeit it took some time. When you get up to the top the views are out of this world. Just be extra careful near the edge especially if you have kids as there are no guardrails. One of my favorite places in Iceland!
Best waterfall so far. We went in winter and the view is insanely incredible
Getting there was the hardest through rough gravel road. But once you are there it's a beauty. There are no fences and barriers around the perimeter. You have to take great care when you are there. Very beautiful.
Best waterfall we saw in Iceland. Beleive me, it's definitely worth visiting!
Also, not very many people here makes it extra quiet and special!
Must visit!
gorgeous views. easily accessible from the parking lot, but there's also a trail that goes further down
What everyone else says!!! Worth the effort. If you forget to pack a lunch the wild crowberries are edible and delicious. In season in September anyways. They sit low on the ground… but don't eat the sheep poop!
We sat on an overhang and meditated. The sound of the falls, the sun shining on us, the berries at our easy grasp, the fresh cold glacier water… paradise!
One of the most beautiful places i have seen. Totally worth the bumpy ride to get there!
Amazing views of two tall waterfalls. Moderately rough road to get there. Hostel with pay for use toilets at the point where the dirt road gets rough.
Haifoss is incredible.
Accessed via a dirt road. The drive is do-able in a car, but you have to go slow and avoid large rocks and pot holes. SUV recommended (but doable in a Ford Fiesta).
Once to the top, there are a few lookouts. THERE ARE NO GUARD RAILS, BE CAREFUL.
The Orange markers mark a trail, about 6Km long (2 hours), that goes to Gjain. Which crosses many gorgeous streams. They also lead down to the base of Haifoss
One of the highest waterfalls and they are amazing! Bit hard to reach, it is possible with a normal car, but 4x4 is preferred. Because it is harden to reach there are less tourists and there are no gates to hold people from the edges. This makes it extra exiting!
The name Háifoss is very fitting. This is one tall waterfall! This is one of those falls that is off the beaten path and requires a 4WD vehicle to get to (preferably with some decent ground clearance). This also means that there are hardly an tourists. There were only 3 other cars when we arrived.
It is definitely worth the slow drive. If you have time, I highly recommend hiking down to the bottom and experiencing it up close and personal. We were the only ones willing to make the trek down, since everyone else was content with their pictures from the top then heading to the next place. The hike is about 30-40 minutes one way, and gives you some incredible views from below.
Amazing dual 120m waterfall and view. Less crowded than other popular spots. Suggest to drive with 4WD as the road is a bit bumpy.
On of the best places in Iceland. Not many tourists. You need 4WD car to get there.
Háifoss - 122-meter, the second highest waterfall in Iceland. Its almost vertical threshold is situated near the volcano Hekla. Recommended 4X4 car. Magic and incredible place
The best waterfall in Iceland. The landscape and nature is romantic.
Offroad car recommended to arrive directly at the waterfall, otherwise it'll be a 90 minutes walk, (wich was very rewarding too). The waterfall itself is a beautiful Location, a very impressive piece of nature indeed. It's also not that crowded with tourists.
