They purposely rock walled the river coming though so you can't get directly to sight, damming the water into the road way, I Even saw seriously equipped vehicles struggling through it. It's illegal to free camp as it's a national park area so you stay there or you're SOL. Definitely had a great time making it out there and the sights are gorgeous. Read other reviews they're fairly accurate. It's a give and take kind of choice to stay there.

If you are doing the big hike this could be your begin or end point. Nice camping where you can experience the hot water pools. Staff is very friendly just great people to talk with and they give good advice. The campsite can be a little rough you'll need rocks to secure the tent. We were there in July and even then there was snow around. If you missing so supplies you can get them at the reception. If this is your starting point enjoy the trip it's worth it!

Wow! Genuine mountain camping. True, tent stakes into the ground piercing hard, but it is even more interesting. There are toilets, hot springs, showers and electricity at additional cost. Also there is a really small market. Landscape like another planet, they are unique.

Been to a lot of camping sites in Iceland, many good and some bad, but this one is the worst. They have a monopoly near one of the most beautiful hiking areas of the country, and they let you know it.
Example a: When is probably the best time to clean the shower/toilets? Well according to those people, it seems to be daily from 9 to 11 am, during which time they will lock down the facilities.
Example b: If you want to "use their facilities" as a day guest, you have to fork over 500 KR. Fair enough so far. If you camp overnight, you pay 2000 KR per person - pricey even for Iceland, but at least "facilities are included in the camping fee". [That is literally what they tell you at the entrance to the shower/toilet facilities, picture attached.] Only that they are not: Showers don't seem to be part of their "facilities", as they are 500 KR extra. Rather unpleasant surprise if you only find out after a swim at the beautiful thermal well (and have your money at the car, naturally).
The smug attitude of the staff ("I don't know why you think you're entitled to a hot shower") doesn't help.

Take my advice: Just avoid paying any "facility fee" altogether, as apparently most people do. I noticed many who were using the facilities didn't have one of those orange wristbands they gave us after paying the camping fee. Staff seem too lazy to control anyway. If you must take a hot shower, buy the separate coupon. Maybe this will make them treat their customers as such.

Common highland camping with hot showers (if you pay extra) and warm water for cleaning hands and dishes. Trash bins are available. Tents are on stony ground, but it's ok since you bring your equipment (mat). The warm nature bath is very nice, but the bottom of the water is usually not so warm as the top. All in all a nice expirience and a good start/end for the treks around.

Location is perfect but that's all. Ovepriced campsite with no services except toilets and cold water. Campgroud is partly wet and partly on rocks, showers are paid, sockets non-existent, bigger shelter or a kitchen to cook is a far dream

Such a nice location for a campsite, right in the middle of the park and it's a very very pretty view in all directions. There are several negatives though, the campsite ground it pure rocks, no grass or dirt to be seen so bring something very soft to lay on and something to bang in tent pegs with. Getting to the campsite is also difficult, you can either take a 20 minute walk from the parking lot over several bridges carrying all your stuff or attempt to ford two rivers, one very deep and flowing, in your car. Bathroom area is large and multi gender and there never seems to be a line. There are a few covered cooking areas next to the bathrooms but these fill up quickly at mealtimes. No electricity for public use unfortunately.

Very well located camp site. There is an option to take a shower for approx 5 minutes. There is a natural thermal spa in the back of the camp. Free entry to the spa. Great starting point to see the mountains and lakes around. The landscape here is just spectacular.

Our first stop in Iceland. Breath taking place. Specially we liked nature thermal spa and surrounding rainbow mountains. Fascinated by vulcanic field. Well equiped camp shop (eggs, adventure food, coffee, beer, tents, rain coats, sleeping bags, camping gass, maps) and nice showers.

Amazing place. In the heart of colorfull mountains with hot spring just 200 m. Nice bathroom, place for eating.

Had rain on first day but second was perfect. Did an evening hike and spent some hours in the hot water. Showers are overpriced if you can bath there for free :)
Prepare to secure your tent with ropes and rocks as pegs are not easy to use on that ground.
