I'd give negative stars if possible. Your chances of getting screwed here are high. Horrific experience. Understaffed and ill-trained. The wait to get into the car was painful. The two fellas behind the counter, one was Scottish and one seemed Scandanavian, were nice guys but their boss was another story. I booked the car through National Rental online for $240 total but was told I would be serviced by their partner ENTERPRISE. Email said "charges could SLIGHTLY vary " due to a variety of variables. I added pre-pay for gas. With full-coverage insurance and prepaid gas, my total for 3 days came to $698!!!!!! I went with full-coverage because of the nightmare I witnessed with another customer, in the store, who did not have full coverage (see below). The car I rented was not available so they "upgraded" me. The car interior smelled of paint thinner or gas. The car did have a navigation system that was better than the Garmin system they gave me. Upon return, I was told they "could not" remove the GPS unit charge from my bill. So basically, they gave me a car with navigation and then charged me for a GPS unit that I no longer needed. The car had a bad pull to the left when driving. BUYER BEWARE. Be prepared to spend nearly triple for "charges may slightly vary". The fellow that seemed to be the boss, was one of the rudest I've ever seen. I witnessed a conversation between a woman whose rental broke down on her during her vacation. He charged her for damages to the radiator although the car did not have a scratch on it. He said "she hit a rock that damaged the radiator." She kept calmly stating that she did no damage to the car and that it over-heated and stopped working. He tried to get her to sign a document accepting responsibility for the damage and she would not do it. Good for her but they still charged her credit card for the damage and she will no doubt spend countless hours fighting these charges! All in all, I'd highly recommend steering clear of renting online through National if you are being serviced by their "partner" Enterprise at the Keflavik Airport.
Great experience! They upgraded my SUV for free, offered me a car WIFI for $14/day which helped us get GPS signal for our phones when LTE wasn't available. Last stop on the rental car bus from Keflavik.
I was so worried about the awful reviews and scams all over the internet about Enterprise and other companies. I always try to use Enterprise in the UK. Pickup was slow as they were very busy, we got a Toyota Aygo and was encouraged to look over the car. We refused the excess and had liability of 3000 EUR. All scratches were listed on the sheet and like Enterprise all across the world you are allowed little marks upto a 50p coin. Like some other people say.IF YOU DON'T want to pay the excess LOOK AFTER THE RENTAL AS IF IT IS YOUR OWN CAR.
Enterprise is the reason why I now have to endure an 8-hour flight smelling like gasoline. Why?
1. The car they rented to me has a defective fuel gauge. If the tank is empty, the gauge will show 3/4 full. If the tank is full it'll be well past the F
2. They gave the car to me with only 1/4 tank. Due to #1, the gauge read as completely full, however after only 200km of driving I ran completely out of gas and was stranded.
3. The nearest gas station to where I was stranded had a 4L tank for sale, but no funnel. So filling the car was a messy affair.
The clerk at the counter was nice enough to comp us for the tank of gas, but a company that's as awful at servicing their fleet as this franchise is shouldn't be in business
Awful service would give them 0 stars if possible. I had to return a car early and they charged me for it and when I contacted them about it they initially didn’t even have a record of me returning the car. Don’t waste your time.
At this Enterprise I received wonderful customer service at a convenient location near the airport (but not in the airport). The price was fair for expensive as ass Iceland, but the main highlight was the capable vehicle I drove off in - a Kia something-rather with heated seats/steering wheel and also AWD which should be standard in Iceland in winter. The Bluetooth in the vehicle was also a nice feature to be able to listen to my own music and GPS directions.
Fairly hassle free car rental - Customer service was a little frosty but apart from that our car was quite new and in good condition with studded winter tyres.
We had paid for the zero excess package so the employee didn't really check the car when we picked the car up, but when we took the car back the employee was ready to start to add charges until I informed her that we had zero excess - so be careful!!!!
We hired the car for 2 days and paid £145 for an estate car, so not the cheapest, but as it was Iceland I wasn't expecting to be much different.
This is a good rental company, my week long rental was a good price and hassle free, pick up and drop off very quick, there's a self serve fuel pump outside. If you do not have a pin number for your credit card then you need a prepayment okan card which you get at the petrol stations. Staff honest and friendly. As usual no hassle with enterprise, i use them in all countries i visit and will use again. Top notch guys. Remember treat a rental car with care, just like your own vehicle and you will have no problems.
Just wanted to share our positive experience at this location considering some of the negative reviews. We arrived around 7 am on a Saturday and had no wait. The rep was friendly and informative and said we only needed the basic insurance which covers wind shield damage so thats what we got. We also got the WiFi adapter as opposed to the navigation so that everyone in the car can get WiFi, had no issues with that. We got a compact Kia which did the job for us as we did not do any F roads. With the compact we still fit 3 check in bags (we had 3 people in our group). No issues with the car, we rented it for about 9 days drive probably over 3000 km. Brought the car back had no issues and drop off was quick and easy. Didnt get charged for anything additional or damages. Overall rental experience was quick and easy would rent from them again if in Iceland again.
I booked with Enterprise because I was scared by reviews of scams using smaller, lesser-known companies. I must say it the whole experience was exactly like every other time I've used Enterprise here at home in the US. Even better as the rep was less pushy about the added coverages than they are here. Much like their US counterparts, they were understaffed and only had 2 guys working upfront when we arrived. Even so, the wait wasn't bad.
I got the vehicle I wanted and only had to wait for about 10-15 minutes in line before getting my turn at the desk. I was not hassled about any false damage upon returning the car and I would definitely use these guys again should I ever return to this amazing country.
Picked up a rental car from Enterprise at Keflavik airport. Overall, I would rent from the again.
The good: The employees were EXTREMELY nice and polite, gave good advice on driving in Iceland, set up a GPS for us, and even included some freebies. The car (a 4x4 Skoda Octavia) was clean (inside) and fairly new (but with minor dings and scratches). The return was easy and quick. There is a gas station right next to the rental office, which makes refueling easy.
What to be aware of:
1) The rental office is not connected directly to the terminal. It is a 5-7 min away by walking (all other car rental offices are pretty much in the same area). There is a shuttle every 10 minutes.
2) The pick up is a bit slow. Slower than in a typical US location. Be prepared and patient.
3) Carefully inspect the car upon pick up. Very likely, it will have some exterior damage (minor dents, scuffs, etc - it is Iceland and tourist often take their rentals off payved highways). Just make sure everything is captured in the rental inspection form.
4) The gas station by the rental office will only accept credits cards with a PIN code (or debit cards). A normal American CC may not work.
So this is a juxtaposed review. Pickup was hell. I waited for at least two hours as the understaffed and overwhelmed crew scrambled to take care of everybody. But when I finally got to the counter it was good service and a friendly staff. Drop off was awesome. Stefan(sp?) Was really great. Prompt and friendly. Very understandable and willing to help. I told him that I was going back into Reykjavik for a few more days before my flight out, he ran in and got me a few flybus tickets and drive me to the bus. Really awesome customer service!!!
Be a bit more careful than you might usually be with Enterprise as they tried to pass off some old damage as new. Thankfully I was on zero-excess or I think there would have been a bit of a debate. Perhaps they do it when you pick up the car in the dark!
10 days rental of a Toyota Aygo (via "DerTour") at Enterprise Rent-a-Car Keflavik. Pick up in the early evening was fast and everything was explained very well. Also the return of the car very early in the morning (3.30 am) was trouble-free. Frindly guy. After a check of the car exterior/interior we get a copy of the report. I would definetly recommend to rent a car here. I dont understand these bad reviews maybe sometimes the customers are a little bit goofy ;-)
Que is slow, but the good thing - i've got a free upgrade for a car.
The very worst - please be very careful at the entrance, it is completely icy. They do not put any sand or salt on it. I fell down in the eyes of bearded worker at the counter. He didn't give a fuk.
Also, the petrol station in front of the office accepts CREDIT cards only.
Slow, wrong car and we were searching for Alamo, couldn't find it. Bad experience
I can't give it zero stars so i have to give it one star. Had a number of issues with the car but it was very difficult to get any assistance. They wouldn't answer the phones, didn't follow up on callbacks and couldn't give us accurate times on help arriving. Lost 1 day out of my trip due to their poor support waiting by the roadside. On top of that they threatened to bill me for a fault in the car. Very poor service and I wouldn't go near them again.
One star is actually too much. Total lack of organisation, extremely long waiting times, false information. Just don't rent a car here.
