Very cute European style hostel. The owners were very friendly and excited to chat about their recommendations of places to visit. This hostel has a very cosy feel. The bathrooms and showers are shared by other guests, but they all have locks on the doors and provide plenty of privacy. We were going hiking to Stórhöfði, and one of the owners was nice enough to drive us to the top so that we could enjoy the walk back downhill. On the way up, she told us stories about the island and her experiences living there. Overall, we had a very positive experience and would highly recommend it.
I was told when I reserved the room that my credit card wouldn't be charged until I arrived, which is why I went with this hostel - as I knew I was running a risk of bad weather during my November trip. I called to cancel my November booking as the ferry wasn't running from bad weather and I was told I had to pay for the room anyways - even though I couldn't get to the island. They were very unpleasant to me over the phone, and refused to allow me to cancel the room even though I couldn't physically get to the island. Please, do yourself a favor and AVOID this place!
Worst customer service I have ever experienced, I would strongly caution against booking here. The ferry I was booked on was cancelled for multiple days due to inclement weather. I called to notify the hostel management and to request to cancel my reservation due to this circumstance which was out of my control, as I had no means of getting to the island since the ferry was cancelled. The manager at Aska Hostel said "That's not my problem, lady" when I explained the situation. I asked if I could speak to someone else and he said I could "call the police" if I wanted. He implied that all tourists are wealthy and said he "cares more about his money than about mine" and that I should "take a private plane" to get there. I said I couldn't afford that, and he laughed and said, "what are you paying for this phone call?" He was extremely rude and even hostile towards me. I would not feel safe staying there, and I caution anyone against booking there in case your ferry is cancelled, too.
Nice hostel! Frienly workers and new rooms. Also affordable (5000 ISK) dormitory room to stay.
Good beds, functionally and tastefully renovated, great personal service from lovely staff that made us feel at home. And yes, I was with a group of 30 15yr olds and all were treated as equals. Can't recommend this highly enough. Thanks for a brilliant stay!
Personnel très sympathique et superbe guesthouse
Calme, propre, bien situé, abordable et personnel accueillant.!
