BLOOD ON THE MATTRESS COVER is what i leave the hotel remembering. I checked in on 6 Aug and the room looked clean and nicely arranged; However, on 11 Aug I was using my computer while the maid was changing the bed and when she took off the bottom sheet my stomach almost turned when I saw a 1-2 inch circle of red blood on the mattress cover. The woman in charge of maid service came later and apologized and somewhat later she brought a young lady to my room to apologize for not changing my sheets as required. I then met with the director of the hotel and she explained that it was not a "fresh" blood stain but a clean washed sheet that she would bring to me so I could smell it. Of course I refused. For all I know they washed it after they took it off my bed knowing it would be a health matter. What I saw was a recent looking blood stain, not a washed clean sheet. The director asked me what she could do to make it up to me. I told her in the US the hotel would probably invite me to be its guest for the remainder of my stay. She said that was rediculous and no way could she consider the hotel inviting me for 4 days during the busy month of August. She offered a free dinner or lunch or some token compensation; which was unacceptable to me; so I informed her that I will let her future clients know of my experience on their internet page. She took it as a threat saying she would not submit to threats. In short, don't expect the treatment or considerations you would get from hotels in the US from Hotel Castilla or probably other hotels in Spain. This was probably my last visit to Playa San Juan or spain due to health reasons; and it is a shame that my memory of this last visit will be more about a Blood Stained Matress cover than any other aspect of my vist or stay at the hotel. The Hotel Castilla Alicante has a spacious room with terrace and a renovated bathroom with rain shower. It is located 150 meters from the beach and surrounded by shops and restaurants. The service staff is very attentive and competent

Thin walls, not much to choose from in breakfast. Price is pretty good, clean, overall good place for a few days.

Cheap and clean, would suggest not eating in hotel where food is overpriced for the quality on offer but there are many alternative eating places within easy walking distance. Great location with fantastic bus and tram connection up and down the coast starting with the bus stop right outside the front door. The combination of the 2 buses 22/21 and the no.6 from Plaza Puerto del Mar make an easy and low cost transfer to the Airport possible for the thrifty!

Convenient to beach, 4 minute walk. Bus stops right outside for the 21 & 22 bus route. One of the tram services runs down the road too.
From the airport the C6, €3.85 per person, bus brings you to the Marina then change for the 21 bus, €1.45 per person, took about an hour and was really easy.
Room we had was clean with a 6 foot wide double bed that was really comfortable with a bath and shower over bath. We stayed on the 8th floor and with the windows and balcony doors closed could hear virtually no noise and so slept really well.
We stayed on a B&B basis, the breakfast was a buffet style with a small selection but was fine and set us up for the day no problem, again quality of food was good.
Food and drink in the hotel were reasonably priced compared to the other places nearby and tasty.
All in all I would stay here again and recommend it to my friends.

Nice hotel, nice room view, clean rooms, polite maids, some, of the staff though didn't even try to speak English. Must be a common thing in Spain though. Nice outdoor pool with plenty of space for sunbathing. Didn't try the restaurant as the food was not to my liking. Breakfast was great for all tastes, from pastries to fresh fruit and eggs to hams and cheeses, cereals and juices of various kinds. Really enjoyed it.
