The swim up bar was great, along with the bar staff, the beach was beautiful and clean, plenty of seats every where. Spa was good. The room was excellent, clean and comfortable and the AC was awesome. Our ocean view was amazing and the Jacuzzi on the porch was a great treat. However the food was OK, nothing to get excited about at all, could not wait to eat something at the US airport. Having to book reservations in advance for dinner and wear long pants in the heat, not my idea of fun at all. Did not like the dress code especially when on vacation, no entertainment what so ever. Next trip to DR wont be here. If you can deal with not so great food, the place was really nice.
FIRST AND LAST VISIT
This resort is VERY UNORGANIZED. We arrived on Friday afternoon around 3:00 and we were still dealing with customer service for various issues well after 6:00 and continued to deal with the same issues the entire stay. My group paid for upgraded accommodations and services but received absolutely no information on what our package included. The clerks at the check in desk seemed not to have a process or any valuable information or instruction and check out was much worse. On the afternoon of check-out guests were lined up to speak with the guest services manager and the police were present in the lobby. Occidental is a beautiful resort but management should definitely be upgraded and staff needs more training.
The company I work for did their last year Christmas party event here at Occidental Punta Cana & it was totally worth it! The place got a new remodelled look; in addition, people that have gone before that happening say it's three times better! 😀 The access key card worked flawlessly and the room plus bathroom looked very nice and cozy 👌 I must say be careful with the bed because it casts a spell on you to sleep the entire day by how comfortable it is! 😜 The buffet & restaurant food were awesome 💯 Service was very friendly and the hotel gives a wide variety of swimming pools, plus a jacuzzi area and of course, an amazing beach to stare in awe and go for a walk.
Our first and definitely not our last at this resort. I read so many negative reviews, but decided to form our on opinion. Guess what??? This resort rocks. Truly All-inclusive!! We checked in April 28, 2018 to Friendly staff, prompt, and professional from check-in to our pending check out on May 5, 2018. Our first day luggage was left at the airport. They accommodated us and got our luggage to us the very next morning. As the airport here does not operate 24 hours! Stop reading the negative reviews get here and enjoy yourself. Thank you Occidental we have had a magical seven days here! Until, our next trip to Punta Cana.
I had a pretty good stay at the Occidental when I went during Spring Break with a large group of friends. Upon check-in, we were able to get three rooms relatively close to each other in the same building. The views were beautiful and the resort was huge - with various pools, restaurants, chairs on the beach, several bars & a club. The entire resort was spotless and there were always employees cleaning the trash, trimming the trees, mowing the grass, etc. The food wasn't great but I recommend making reservations at the restaurants the first night of your stay as those were significantly better than the buffet! I enjoyed the Mexican & Asian restaurants the most. My only major complaint about the resort was the staff's obsession with the towels. Yes, oddly enough, the towels. On my second day, after using the beach towels at the beach & at the pool, we left them on the bathroom floor for the maids to collect and give us new ones. They took the dirty ones but never replaced them with new ones, so we didn't have any beach towels. They also only gave us 1 new bath towel (there were 3 people in the room). We asked the front desk 4-5 times for new beach & bath towels and they either wouldn't give them to us or told us to try to find the maids and ask for them. Horrible system and we ended up having to grab them off of a random maids' cart. We never were able to get new beach towels so we spent the rest of the week with nothing. At check-out, they asked us for our beach towels and told us if we didn't give them to them we'd be charged $20 per towel. We told them that the maids took them & we never received replacements. They fought with us and told us that it didn't matter and unless we gave them towels, we couldn't leave. The woman actually told us to go to the pool & take people's towels or else we'd pay $60. The entire situation was ridiculous. I don't know if they thought we were stealing them (we repeatedly told them to look in our bags) or if they were just obsessed with an oddly strict policy, but it rubbed me the WRONG way. Also, I went to the gift shop to buy aloe vera & sunscreen (overly priced but to be expected at a resort) and the employees tried to rip me off by giving me a $5 when they owed me $14. I had to argue with them for 20 minutes before they finally gave me the correct change - and I don't think the language barrier was the issue. I had a good experience all in all but honestly I don't think I'd return.
My two great kids club employees Esperanza and Cerna were awesome. My son loved kids club and mini disco after dinner were they went on stage. This is all he talks about.
Food great. Room great. Beach great. We come back again and again.
Thank you.

Rooms are large and clean; their condition is great. The resort is pretty small which is good if you are with friends, because it is easy to find one another. You can walk everywhere within 5 minutes or less. Food in restaurants is poor at best, so don't waste time on a la carte places. The buffet is pretty good, however, and is the only place where you can get good, regular, black coffee. But the staff are quite sulky and rude, and they reprimand guests like teachers would school kids.
Very nice place in a beautiful location! The wait staff and the entertainment teams are wonderful. Everyone has a smile on their face and is happy to greet you and serve you. Would totally recommend. Food could improvemore variety needed!
This is our second time at The Occidental Punta Cana (we came last year and had such an amazing time, we decided to come back). We are loving every minute here, again! Service and facilities are excellent. We bring our 10 year-old with us. Kudos to the Animation staff Carolin, 🍫Chocolate, Carla, Marisol, Ruth (Diva). They make our stay more enjoyable, more fun, and more entertained. We would definitely come back year after year to The Occidental Punta Cana!!
Very nice place. The rooms are nice and clean. The food is very tasty lots of different dishes in the buffet. Restaurants are great. The employees are very friendly and engaging. Always smiling and helpful. La Diva is a great worker so friendly. Alejandro ask for him in playing games. Overall great experience. Just book it
Great rooms, decent food and the majority of the restaurant and bar staff are helpful characters that make sure you have a good time.
The steakhouse is on par with high end restaurants in Canada.
The guy that handled our check in was a jerk. After waiting - a while - he said we couldn't get three rooms with king size beds. Yet somehow the bellhop was able to get us into the rooms we reserved in five minutes.
Overall a great place, but first impressions have a tendency to last.
The gift shops just outside the resort gates are far cheaper than the stores on site. Also, getting WiFi access is tricky here. They require tickets for one hour of use, which seemed to disappear by the afternoon. Beach towels are also hard to come by if you're not at the pool house first thing in the morning.
During the check in guy at reception told that he don't see the money that we had sent before, so we had to pay a deposit 500$ to hotel so they allow us to stay. The next day they suddenly see our money that came couple days ago at Saturday, and seems because it was Saturday seems they were just not in mood to check it. And they refused any apologize for this. Of course they returned the deposit but this situation is inappropriate. In general, pools are good, sea is awesome but personal could be much better.
Very good service by all personnel, from the gardeners to the manager of the hotel.
There are 5 thematic dinner restaurants: Asian, seafood, Brazilian grill, Italian and Mexican. All are very good on their own style. Also the 2 buffet restaurants for breakfast and lunch are quite good with their selection of dishes, fruits, soups and salads.b the deserts are not so good compared with other hotels from this chain that we have tried.
The pool and the beach are quite nice. There is towel service and beach beds all love the place.
This is a hotel, but also a vacation club. There are different levels on the club, so there are parts of the site that are off limits. Probably ok for most people anyway.
Excursions are available. Be aware they are expensive, more than usual in comparison to other destinations in the Caribbean.
Overall, a nice hotel, good service and good stay. Definitely a repeat and to recommend.
Came here for my honeymoon a few years back and we really enjoyed it. It was close to the airport and the resort was close to town for some local shopping and flavour. The food was ok and the honeymoon package was the cherry on top. We did a few excursions out of the resort Horse back riding and Dune buggies, prices were reasonable but you have to negotiate. Nice resort nice beaches and my brother in-law got a Russian girl pregnant. True story he's still paying her, so be weary of forein loose women and the local men that want to "Live with and Marry You" presumably to get out of the D.R.good times
Friendly excellent service food. Excellent beaches all staff give you Royal treatment all in one package i give it a 5 Star hotel rate been member since 2004 love it
Very tropical, club level is awesome with a separate club with a bar and breakfast and a private bar at the beach. Top shelf booze at club level, 3 full bottles in the room when you arrive. Rooms are newly renovated. People are nice and quick to offer help for anything you need. The perfect size resort, it's big enough but not too big. Food is good, not great. I personally didn't care for the beef but the rest is good
The overall experience was good. The hotel had nice renovated rooms and good amenities, as well as some friendly hard working people. However, the reason I'm giving only 2 stars to this hotel is because of the management. I took my fiance to this hotel for our 4 year anniversary and when we got to the hotel they placed us in Building 10 which hasn't been renovated yetin fact the mini bar (which is actually just a mini fridge) wasn't working, the toilet wasn't working, the tv wasn't working and the shower fell on my fiance's head. We talked to the manager (Angel) at the front desk and he switched our rooms the next day at around 2 pm and offered to give us a late check out on the house for the inconvenience. On our last day, we went to the front desk to talk to Angel at 9 am to arrange the late check out and he said he didn't remember talking to us about this matter. Really? After arguing with him, he accepted to let us check out at 2 pm, but since we had to be at the hotel till 5 pm we tried paying for 2 extra hours.guess what? They didn't allow us to do so, because apparently they were overbooked and they needed our room?? What a terrible management! and this is not it, we came back to the front desk at 2 pm and the two people working at the time (one of them named Carlos) said that we were supposed to check out at 12 and not 2 and that we needed to pay $20 for late check out. We really wanted to enjoy our last day; instead we had to spend it arguing until Angel decided to show up again and fix the problem which was supposed to be fixed at 9 am when we very nicely talked to him.
BTW. the complimentary room at this hotel is actually a public washroom.
Dear Canadians, we really recommend you to go to a different hotel. We talked to other Canadians who had been staying at Grand Palladium and Princess all suites and they had a wonderful experience and no issues at all. We loved Punta Cana and I'm sure we will come back but not to Occidental, never again.
Customer service is all, especially in the hotel industry and it's too bad that at Occidental people don't understand this (I'm talking about management and people at the front desk).
Great place for relaxing. They do have activities to participate in but I come to this resort just to relax and get away from things. The food service is good at all of the main restaurants. All of the workers are friendly. Nice beach area and several people pools. No room service but you can always get something to eat even during the time the main restaurants are closed.
Nice location. Renovated rooms are very nice. Service could be significantly better. Swim up bar extremely slow. Single bar near beach, always busy, fairly slow. Food was pretty good. Late night taco's and pizza was excellent! Great late night bartender Santos Castillo made the trip worthwhile.
i love everything about the hotel and i love the people that work there we go two or three times every year and so are our kids and friends.
Worst holiday ever. Watch out for food poisoning and bad service
One of the most beautiful resorts I've seen. Staff was great. Nice place for adults and kids. Food was excellent! Beach was superb! Just make sure you have international calling on cell or be prepared to pay for wifi $15&up per day.
I had a good time here. Our room was spacious, had a very big private terrace overlooking vegetation where I would enjoy daily rainfalls while just relaxing. The grounds were beautiful, red brick roads running through white villas. The pools were the same too, it serpentines along the grounds connecting the bigger pool if I remember correctly. The beach is gorgeous, clean and full of palms. The food was above average, although I have to admit I did have a couple of hard days deciding on what to eat. The staff was friendly, but the time share people were absolutely irritable. They should really get lost..I know everyone has a job to do, but it is my vacation and I do not want anyone to sell me anything.. It takes you yo have to tell them to leave you alone, and I don't want to get to that point. They just don't get it even after u say no a few times. The shows were a lot of fun, they entertained well enough.
Just outside the hotel is a town I went to buy a calling card, just be prepared to have to fend people off. Something that should take 5 min will turn into 1 hour.
I would return to this place again in the future.
