I just got back from a great week at Agualinas. The food at the cafe is terrific. The rooms while not super moder were clean neat and tidy. The staff did everything to make my stay exceptional. The location on kite beach was exciting.
While its located about 1km from the main beach it provides a better atmosphere. Transportation in and out of Cabarete is readily availability.
This is an ideal kite destination. And the people at the school are very knowledgeable and attentive.

The resort is fabulous. We had a ground floor room and walked straight from out room through the garden onto the beach. The property is advertised as 4* but there are no coffee/tea making facilities. Something we happen to love. After asking we did get a coffee maker. The cleaner are keeping the place very clean and also the gardeners are well on top of things. All staff is very friendly. A drawback for some, is that you are a bit out of town, which others (like us) like. I am a fanatic kite surfer and would highly recommend this if kite surfing is your thing. All is exactly as advertised. As customer you know what you get

Beautiful view, convenient to local restaurants on the beach, tiki bar on the premises, refrigerator in room, beach towels provided, and private parking with a security gate at night. Guests have to request soap and shampoo. The beach access needs a nonexistent ramp to get to the narrow beach, no complementary coffee in the morning, no elevator yet a 3 story property, and country's water is not potable yet no bottled water in the room.

Racial profiling is a known problem among Dominicans at many of the foreign-owned beach hotels and restaurants in Cabarete and Agualina is part of the problem. My Dominican friends weren't allowed entry into the restaurant inside Agualina by the hotel security. Since bringing this to light Agualina has only made excuses and threatened those who have spoken up about the problem. There is no excuse for racial profiling and Agualina should make it a priority to address this issue in a genuine way by acknowledging it as a real problem and laying out a plan to make sure it doesn't continue. Foreign businesses in Cabarete benefit from the land and the local people. Tourism is a double-edged sword that has the potential to benefit the local community but often just pushes locals further into poverty and a world of discrimination and other forms of abuse on their own soil. Don't perpetuate this harmful version of tourism by bringing your business to companies like Agualina. Don't support colonialist businesses in Cabarete.

My boyfriend and I are both Dominicans who live in Cabarete and used to enjoy the services provided on the grounds of Agualina--the restaurant and the kite school are among the best you can find in Cabarete. Unfortunately in the last couple of months they've begun to enact policies that in essence keep Dominicans from being able to enter as security has been told to make any number of excuses to bar them entry. On two separate occasions my boyfriend and I were stopped at the front gate on our way to the restaurant as the security guard had been instructed, presumably, to stop any Dominicans at the gate. We told them several times we were going to the restaurant but they told us we couldn't pass. The reason this policy has been brought to my attention as being racist against us Dominicans, is that we have several foreign friends and none of them have been stopped since the policy came into effect. If they were to stop all people at the gate regardless of colour and nationality I wouldn't feel so humiliated, but they targeted me and my partner and that's not OK.
