I enjoyed my time here. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The place is quaint and though people were there it didn't feel over crowded.

A LIVING NIGHTMARE!!! Don't waste your money going here. You have to pay for the wifi that doesn't even work properly, you have to pay a cleaning fee for the rooms and the cleaning lady doesn't even clean it everyday. The meal plan is a waste but it is mandatory even if you don't eat the things on the menu. The room itself was full the bugs and lizzards. The staff the horrible throughout your stay and get worse as the time goes on. Only Victor one of the workers was genuinely nice and he should be running the place. The actual owners are disrespectful. Your things will get stolen also. Don't waste your time or money this was the worst vacation ever. The photo proves I'm telling the truth because that's me in the their pool.

We arrived to the "resort" by cab. No one tells you this, but the cab that is waiting for you at the airport to take you to the "resort" is a flat $45 whether it's just 1 person or 5 so keep that in mind.

Check in was terrible. Took the poor kid over an hour to get the three of us taken care of. And this is where the rough start happens. The "resort" is not all inclusive. The meal plan is for breakfast and dinner only and costs $195 per person. You can imagine our shock when we realize that they are asking for another $600 from us. Luckily, we only needed 2 as our third would be leaving early, so $400. There is also a housekeeping fee of $99, the lock to the in-room safe is $35, the WiFi is not included and that's $75. Note: You can only use the WiFi code that they give you on 1 device. Once you use the code on a device, it is only for that device and you have to purchase another code to use on another device. We had to get 2. The last fee was the incidentals deposit of $100 cash that they hold onto until after your check out. SO, in total, before we even got our key to the room, we paid $800 plus the 18% tax that they charge you. And this is just at the "resort". There's no tax anywhere else. Amex is not accepted.

About the excursions: The average price is $80 and that's per person, not per party. You have to pay for the excursions through the Villas office with the 18% tax. We did the City tour (the best one), Bravissmo show (free drinks!) and Paradise Island (beautiful island but the painful boat ride soured the experience). The show was part of the meal plan and alone it's $59. I do not recommend young children visit Villas Jazmin as the excursions are an all day event that NO child under teen aged could handle.

About the room: There is no Central AC. The only unit is in the bedroom and it's inoperable between the hours of 10a and 6p. In addition, you have to keep the door closed and locked in order for it to turn on. The hot water is the same. You get 2 minutes of hot water and there's no shower, just a handheld connected to the bath. We had to take baths that were either entirely too hot or too cold all week. The room was mostly clean. I did see LARGE roaches in the bathroom a couple of nights.

The restaurant: Breakfast is from 8-10a and dinner is from 6-9p. For $195 you get 5 hours per day of a limited menu and dry bar. The soda is bottled and you can't drink the tap water. I never saw a draft beer and the only mixed drink was rum and coke. The good: the waiter we had was amazing. The bad: the food is mediocre and honestly, you could save money by not getting the meal plan and eating at the few restaurants in the area. They don't keep stock of anything but chicken and shrimp. I ate a lot of Arroz con Pollo. The rooms do have kitchens so you could also just fend for yourself.

About the "resort": The only awesome part was the pool. There's nothing else to do other than that. You have to pay for the tennis courts and bring your own equipment. No open bar, no game room, no movies. Nothing. Just Spanish language cable and walls.

The area: Villas Jazmin is in a gated community/compound and not beach side as the website has you believe. It's a short walk around the corner. Sunday is family day so the beach is packed from dawn to past dusk. It's not a very clean beach, not going to lie. There's always trash, beer bottles, paper plates and cups from one end to the other. There are walking vendors on the beach selling home made snacks. Ladies, keep your jewels at home. We were told day 1 that the neighbourhood isn't the safest. Don't make eye contact unless you want to buy something. The beach chairs aren't free. They cost RD$100 and you only have them until 7p. No real shopping in walking distance unless you want food stuffs. Don't leave the compound without a guide. The guards at the front are armed. Think about that.

Over all, we had a good time despite the bitter beginning. Do your research and don't take the negative comments lightly.
