Was there last week from April 5 to 12, 2018room was average, in our third day the toilet was flooded and had a very bad smell. We asked customer service to come and checked out room around 2 pm..lady said she will send someone to come and fix ..stayed at the pool with the kids and had dinner and went and check the room if it's fixedas soon as I enter the room I was greeted by the foul smell from the toilet and went back to inform them. ..had to change room and carry all our belongings to different room. At the Hemingway bar there were two girls that were basically drunk..around 11 pm one of the drunk girl approached the waiter and gave him a hug and started kissing her and grabbing her butt..for heaven sake..she is drunk and the waiter should not take advantage of that.some waiter our good but not all of themloved the beach but will never go back again to think resort

Amazing beach and clear ocean water. Very pleasant staff. Food was better than average for Cuba standards (not bad).

After 19 visits to Sol Cayo Guillermo we can't wait for our 20th in the near future. The amount of work that has been done from our trip in November when they re-opened after Irma and our trip in January was impressive. We realize it takes time for the palms and vegetation to re-grow but the gardeners have been very busy. When we walk into the lobby and see that fantastic view we know we are home. Getting to know the staff and their families makes us feel like part of their family. We have never gone hungry from lack of choices in the restaurants or needed more variety of drinks. We have been to Cuba 30 times and have never found another place we ALL the staff makes you feel welcome. We work hard for our money and feel that Sol Cayo Guillermo gives us the best value in Cuba.

Very nice and hard working staff. Beautiful place. but poor resources/quality of materials/equipment - almost everything brakes/broken. Craftsmanship is weak. Supplies run out everywhere all the time. This place lacks good management. Hotel staff are amazing but they have little to work withalso room service mostly "didn't happen".

Just returned to UK from family holiday at this hotel and first time in Cuba. Overall a positive impression of fbis hotel .

    Positives

Staff on whole friendly and helpful
Alessandro ( pool bar ) and Gally ( head of animation ) stand out . Very engaging individuals who speak good conversational English .

Beautiful surroundings and beach is sublime . Will have fond memories of hand feeding shoals of Angel
fish with bread and getting to within a foot or so of a Brown pelican on the Hemingway pier .

I would reccomend the Ranch House restaurant for lunch if fancy a change from the buffet . There is also an excellent barbecue once a week .

Good choice of drinks and coffee .

    Room was comfortable and well
air conditioned if a little tired .

Food not bad and could always find something to like - pancakes or omelettes for breakfast or grilled fresh sea food and meat for tea .

    Negatives

The lack of air conditioning in buffet restaurant can make eating in there uncomfortably warm. We tried to get in early when less busy and didn't have
to wait for table to be cleared and more likely to get prompt service from staff.
Later on crowded and whilst staff working very hard it appeared didn't have enough to cope efficiently with volume of guests .

Having read other reviews and way that part of hotel may be state owned I can only think work being put off to save money .However air conditioning is something that needs to be urgently addressed .

    Other comments

Tipping not mandatory but will be appreciated .

Wifi available in lobby area but will need to purchase a card ( 1.5 convertible peso ) for an hour . This is how everybody in Cuba accesses the internet through state run provider .

If you're vegetarian you basically won't get any decent food. They like to cook meat and veg together and put things out without any label.

There was a lot of poop in my room for some reason. guess the workers just couldn't hold it until they got back. I found multiple hairs in my food. I found a dead raccoon in my pillow. But overall a great time and a wonderful hotel

If you like the all inclusive 3x per day buffet pool entertainment + touristic evening Programm together with people that don't visit anything beyond this in Cuba and come here every year, in a hotel where the jacuzzi has been empty for a few years and that is past its best days then this is your place. It's not mine. Staff is really friendly though and you got the best kite spot on Cuba at your doorstep!
