Fantastic experience for my family of 5 all trying surfing for the first time. Sabika and Moses were excellent instructors. We all had great success getting up and riding the waves! Our group consisted of 2 adults and kids ages 16, 12, and 11. Thanks for a great time Iguana Surf!

Such a nice place! The instructors are really friendly and the shop staff is very helpful and nice. The vibe in the shop is very good as well!! Everyone is just enjoying their time. The lessons were super helpful! Also the shop is right in front of the beach so it’s super convenient to get into the water☺️ Would totally recommend!!

It's been my third time surfing with IGUANA Surf! I keep on coming back because the school is really good in many ways.
The guys at the reception Julie, Andrea, Jean, Louis and Chris are always friendly and try to handle all requests as quickly as possible.
The surf instructors are really good surfers themselves and always motivated.
I did a few lessons and felt like they would focus on my personal requirements, so that I really could improve!
You can also rent boards at IGUANA and can keep them overnight, so you can use them whenever you wish. If you had a lesson with them you only pay half the price for the rental.
They have a variety of boards, so there's something for every level.

We have done a few activities now with iguana surf and they have all been excellent! Every staff member has been very friendly and helpful (especially the manager Cristian). If you're planning on visiting Tamarindo, I highly recommend using Iguana Surf for all your adventures!

I came to Tamarindo and stayed with Iguana Surf to do their surf camp. It was hands down the best week ever!! First of all, I got to stay in the luxury beach hotel upstairs in a shared dorm room filled with awesome people. The hosts made sure I was always busy and showed me all the best spots to eat and go out. And the location right across from the beach is unmatchable! Second, I enjoyed a week of surf lessons with an awesome instructor. They are so knowledgable and kind! Even though I hadn't surfed much before coming, I felt comfortable instantly and was riding waves in no time. We even went on some surf trips and I got professional photos taken as part of the package! Finally, what stuck out to me about Iguana surf is the people there. It felt like a family and even though I was only there for a week, I am going to miss everyone terribly! The whole staff is amazing and I can't wait to come back. Pura vida!!

The crew at Iguana Surf are simply the best. I manage vacation rentals here in town and refer ALL my guests there. They have a great selection of surfboards and their instructors are the best in town, whether for adults or smaller children. Their support staff and tour booking desk have always taken excellent care of my guests and set them up with only the finest tour providers in the area. They have made my job SO much easier and I have only received rave reviews from everyone I have sent there. Thank you to everyone at Iguana Surf for professionalism and incredible service!

We are long tie residents in Tamarindo and we always use Iguana surf to book our tours and surf lessons. Anytime we have family or friends visiting we make sure to set them up with a surf lesson or send them on some other great adventure. The staff at Iguana has alway been super helpful and go above and beyond to make sure everything is taken care of.

So glad we found iguanas after difficulty booking with Witches Rock.
We had two instructors (David and Ugo )for our family of 4. The whole family was able to get up many times and our teen boys didn’t need any help by end of lesson. David really emphasized the importance of safety. Great experience for first time surfing.response / report this review -

Our surf instructor Manuel was amazing and very patient. Overall just a good guy, couldn’t have asked for a better instructor. Definitely get the photo package, all of the pictures came out perfectly. Will be back and highly suggest Manuel if needing lessons in the area.

My friends and I decided to go to Iguana based on the great reviews but didn't find the beginner surf class lived up to expectations. The instructor was great with going out of his way to switch to a bigger board for one of our friends who was struggling which was great. We found the lesson was mainly just to get us to stand on our board but didn't care to explain more. We did another lesson in Playa Santa Teresa at the same level and found the it was so much better with getting us to progress quickly within the same amount of time plus the instructor just had a better attitude and was motivating.

We had a group lesson with pete. He was very nice and had a great positive attitude. We enjoyed everything about our lesson especially the safety that was mentioned during the class. We learned how to surf and had a great time.

Excellent instructor helped me, who has difficulties with balance, manage to stand on my board multiple times to ride the waves. Class was 20-30 minutes on the sand to discuss and practice techniques (how to stand on the board, how to get up to standing from paddling on the board) before remainder of time in the waves. There were three of us with Keylar, and we had an awesome time. Bonus: rest of our group didn't come back in time to take photos of us, but Iguana Surf had a photographer working for them. For $35 we got the photos they shot with a long lens from shore uploaded to Dropbox - and they are great shots! (Will add some when I am on laptop)

Iguana Surf provides the perfect combination of location and all services you may need for wonderful vacation here: accommodation, renting surf boards – a broad choice, surfing instructors, trips around and if you like (highly recommended) a professional photographer who can take for you videos and photos for an affordable price.
All this done very professionally, efficiently and in a very pleasant, friendly atmosphere.
Their condos are very convenient, providing everything you could think of. Also very well located: on one hand close to the beach, on the other hand 2 minutes walk from the main Tamarindo’s street, choice of restaurants in a walking 5 min. distance, including the only in town “Pure Vegan” – vegan restaurant.
Their package includes excellent breakfasts in Café Tico (2 min. walk), where in addition to the delicious food, you get every morning a smile from Barbara:)
I took a package with 5 surfing trips, which were also surfing lessons. Luis was with me in the water all the time, and after the week I feel my surfing really improved. Thanks Luis!

My family was visiting Costa Rica for a family vacation and my younger sister and I wanted to take some surf lessons. We saw Iguana Surf while driving through town and decided to go there and they were very helpful and accommodated us easily. We had done lessons before in San Diego but it was a long time ago so we told Iguana Surf that we were beginners. Our instructor was extremely nice and patient. He really took the time to teach us the proper technique on the beach and then helped us get better once he helped push us onto waves. Once the lesson was over and we got back to the shop, my sister and I realized we had gotten a rash from our legs rubbing on the boards (pretty common for new surfers). Some of the staff ran to the store and got us cream to help it feel better! They didn't even ask if it hurt they just immediately went and got it for us. Everyone that works there was extremely friendly and professional. They made us feel like we had known all of them for years and made us feel comfortable with our very beginner surfing skills. The pictures they took made us look like professionals. My parents liked it because they could easily see us from the restaurant next door. Highly recommend this place!

Lindsey, Chad, and their staff at Iguana Surf were great to work with on our vacation to Costa Rica. From the moment we initially inquired to the minute we left, Lindsey was very easy to communicate with and answered every question we could think of. While in Tamarindo both Lindsey and Chad showed us their favourite spots to eat, drink, work out, and relax. They really go above and beyond to ensure you have the best vacation possible. You will leave for home wanting to learn Spanish and plan your next trip to Costa Rica!

I had an amazing experience with the Iguana surf family in Tamarindothe lessons, equipment and accommodations were excellent! My instructor FIFO was super fun to learn from and Lindsey is a magician when it comes to planning and coordinating other activities to make the most out of your trip. Going back again!
