Great service, Great Food, Great Employees. This hotel offers the small charm of a Inn at competitive prices.

I took my mom there for dinner. The waitors were very nice. Food was tolerable. I sat in a couch chair at the table can't get much better than that. However upon arriving the older lady(I think she was the owner) who was working at the front desk gave us attitude when we didn't have a reservation. She was stuck up instead of welcoming. They didn't put a candle at our table all the other ones had one. At the end of the meal when we were leaving I asked her if they had a toothpick on the way out. She looked at me and said yes they did. And we just sat there looking at each other. She made no effort or attempt to accommodate me. A sane person would have toothpicks at the desk on the way out.

I think this explains it all. If you want to go there and spend $200 on a dinner for this lady to treat you like a piece of dirt when you arrive and when you leave then please go ahead. I will not. Wasn't worth the money.

We had a wonderful dinner paired with staff's pick of wine on a weekend evening. The food was delicious, the staff were nice and friendly, and the hotel itself is beautiful.

My wife and I booked the Magnolia room for Friday, Oct 6, 2017. This is a premium room with private access to the balcony. The price was more than we would normally spend but we were celebrating our anniversary so we decided to pay for the upgraded room. We received confirmation from the hotel. The confirmation specifically confirmed the Magnolia room. When we checked in, we were shown to a much smaller room (about 9 x 12) with no balcony access and one small window. This was not what we expected nor what was conformed by the hotel. When we complained, we were offered a slightly larger room - which still did not come close to the room we had booked. The rooms offered were at the same price as the premium room. The hotel offered no other alternatives nor an explanation regarding why we could not have the room we booked. We were so disappointed that we drove back to Toronto. In business I have spent many years travelling and have stayed at over 30 hotels per year for more than 20 years. I have never had an experience like this. We cannot understand how a hotel can charge for and confirm a premium room but then supply a room that we consider to be less than basic.

The service and food at the Charles hotel were excellent. I attended a wedding reception there. Although the food tended to take a while to arrive, it was well worth the wait. I had a chicken dish and it was crispy on the outside but moist on the inside. I would highly recommend them

We stayed in the Safari Room which was a large, comfortable space. Some of our favourite aspects were enjoying wine on the second floor veranda, dining at the HOB NOB (located right in the hotel), and the complimentary bubbly for our anniversary. If you like character and charm, the Charles is for you. It is a heritage building so accessibility is limited however, the staff were very clear when we booked. The breakfast in the morning was delicious and quick. We will be back 😀

Niagara on the Lake is such a wonderful town and The Charles Hotel fits right in with it's quaint charm and character. We were welcomed by name as soon as we walked in and treated so well. We were there for a milestone birthday for my wife and we treated to a complimentary cheese plate and bottle of wine waiting for us in our room. The room was fantastic and spacious and comfortable. The attached restaurant, HobNob, has two dining rooms and a lounge. We sat next to the fireplace in the lounge and had a wonderfully delicious meal. I would recommend this place to everyone!

I can't think of how my stay at the Charles Hotel could improve. We stayed in the "library"; a very accommodating room with a very comfortable king size bed. Our dinner, on site, at the Hobnob restaurant was truly delicious and the waiter was very attentive. In fact all the hotel staff were friendly and attentive. I would definitely go back to the Charles Hotel.

Becoming DILAPIDATED. Stayed here in 2015 with rave reviews. Requested the LIBRARY ROOM again as it was so nice the first time. This year the carpet was gone and a strong formaldehyde/mildew smell permeated the room. Either there was a flood in the room or the wood floors were recently refinished and the room was not properly ventilated. There were some upkeep issues as well: banged up walls and scuffed paint that needed attention, the exterior side door outside the room was broken so was either propped open to the street (security?) or inaccessible if not even with the room key. The breakfast was still excellent, A/C incredible, ultra modern bathroom, and gardens beautiful, plus the location can NOT be beat if you want stay "in town", but considering the price of this room and its LUX status you walk through the door expecting to leave any care or worry outside but end up questioning your choice. I also missed the in-room tea service that was a feature before.

We were a group of 8 and had a reservation in the front dining room. Very lovely. Tables are well spaced so even at such a large table you could hear everyone speaking. Servers are terrific as is food. We arrived at 5:30pm so we would have plenty of time to get to the Festival Theatre for an 8pm show and had a great experience. We'll be back. I had the pea soup and chicken (yum)
