It's easy to miss this spot if you're just strolling the street - look for the Cigar shop that it's connected too and you're in the right place.
It's spacious and beautifully decorated. Every staff member has been lovely in my 2 visits.
I love the combos/bentos and will be back. They seem to do everything well but it's more like a great everyday sushi spot vs a knock-your-socks-off experience.
best sushi i’ve ever had! the server was so kind and checked in on us occasionally. i loved that they served us both cold water and hot tea in the beginning, and the food came pretty quickly too. the atmosphere inside was wonderful, and it was nice that the chefs and servers were all japanese as well, adding to the authenticity of the restaurant!
Been one loyal patron since 2007. This honorable Victoria restaurant presents decades of chef qualities in discipline and strive to deliver excellent cuisine. Exemplified in nigiri and sashimi, fresh and coordinated. Dish presentation has always been outstanding. Knowledgeable and friendly waiters and waitresses bring the dining experience to next level.
A moment of sen
Truly good food is not only an occasion to make memories, but brings back old ones. The food here transported me back to my childhood to some of my grandmother's food moments. More specifically with the tamago and shiso.
Tamago, sweet egg, was done perfectly. Biting into it is suppose to be an experience with layers litterally. As the egg cooks increasing number of folds is made. By gentle pan frying they are able to maintain a sweetness and suppleness to the egg. That finds itself between these layers. It doesn't taste fried, it doesn't tast eggy, it doesn't taste like custard. It tastes uniquely right.
Shiso distinquishes restaurants that are actually trying to be Japanese. This herbaceous leaf unique to Japan paired so well with the rice and sashimi.
Speaking of which the rice had a wonderful gummy texture. It's vinegar supported the oils of the sashimi.
I can't find any complaint with the sashimi. All were like principles in a show. They complemented each other and were distinct. I think the pictures exemplify the experience.
A unique distinction with Sen is that they provide grated ginger. I haven't seen this before. It provides a unique experience.
Hands down this was the very best sushi I've ever had! The fish was so incredibly fresh, tender, and flavourful. I had the chirashi don and while on the pricier side ($35) it could easily feed 2 people. The coconut ice cream was a perfect way to end the meal. Great atmosphere, great service, and truly outstanding food. 10/10, would go back in a heartbeat!
Sen Sushi has been our number one place for fantastic Japanese cuisine. I have never been disappointed and always impressed with the service and willingness to make it just the way you ask. This Japanese restaurant is always clean and despite being busy we have never waited that long. Everyone that we have taken here always comment on how much flavour the food has and how it's presented. If you're looking for the best in Japanese food in Victoria, you must visit Sen Sushi on Fort Street.
Great place! Best Japanese food in Victoria by far. Great service. Fair prices. Worth the wait if there is one :)
My daughter and I enjoyed Sen Zushi for the first time today and were amazed.
Wonderful menu, affordable and just the best sushi we've had in Victoria (and we have had a lot!!)
Service was excellent, a bit of a wait to get in but there I a reason for that.
Highly recommend and we will be back soon.
I’ve been going here for (quite literally) my entire life, and I am so thrilled that they are still thriving. The fish always tastes fresh and the bento boxes offered at lunchtime are a great deal. The staff have always been incredibly kind and accommodating. Highly recommend if you appreciate quality sushi and are looking for authentic Japanese cuisine.
BEST yakisoba I’ve had in Victoria, better than some I’ve had in Japan. Sushi is also the best in the city hands down. Please keep the yakisoba on the menu!!!
I always dined here before the pandemic.
The great experiences have been consistent.
I never had any problems. If there were minor ones, they were resolved. To those people who had problems, you have to learn to work out the problems.

Ordered some sushi via Uber Eats and I was so disappointed! I spent almost $45 on some rolls that sounded delicious, but did not taste it. The fish tasted far from fresh and the rice tasted like it was a few days old.. the only redeeming item I got was the prawn tempura.
Great place for great sushi. Tuna, scallops and salmon sashimi is really good. Visited twice and both times really enjoyed it.
I adore this restaurant. Beautiful interior, ideal atmosphere for family and friends gathering, AMAZING food. I wouldn't mind to have my spot there reserved for all times.
I've just recently tried this place, and I love it! I've ordered from here a few times using door dash, so depending on the driver it usually arrives in good condition. I find their sushi is very fresh, and very flavourful! Also their homemade spicy sauce is delish. I would love to try in restaurant sometime. Highly recommend!
The food is great here, not amazing but not terrible. Unfortunately there the chefs are not willing to accommodate customers during COVID-19 who are restricted under a quarantine order. After going over the food safety standards the manager confirmed for me that it was due to the chefs being unable to control the plating of an order, not the safety of consuming the fish in why they would not allow customers to order sushimi.
It’s sad because it is coming from a place of ego, and the manager even confirmed for me that many other people trapped in their homes had asked for the same thing and were disappointed.
I truly hope Sen Zushi sees this and many other reviews and decides to make changes to accommodate their customers who are trapped at home. Other amazing small restaurants haven’t been so lucky to even survive this pandemic and have had to close due to mounting costs - Sen Zushi is lucky for where it is and how it’s held up.
I think a more accommodating and less ego-centric attitude would serve them better for years to come.
Always love SenZushi. Reasonably priced and pretty authentic food (one of the most authentic in Victoria, anyways)
It's always the best sushi, six years never had a bad meal. Doing takeout now, on time, well packaged, no mistakes
Simply put, the best sushi in town. Amazing food, still casual great atmosphere. The best is here.
My favorite Japanese restaurant in town. The portion size is more than enough. Quality of the sushi is good. Atmosphere is awesome.
The sushi is quite tasty, but the rest of the menu is even better. I ate a very filling meal of tuna don and a bowl of udon for a surprisingly low price, especially given the quiet, high end atmosphere! Great place for a nice evening out or even more casual meals.
One of my favourite places for sushi in Victoria. It's consistent and I really like the service. The seasonal items are fresh and different. I've had saltwater eel and uni recently which were a real treat!
Authentic and amazing! Same goes for the presentation, Service and the cleanest sushi bar I've ever been to Spotless. (That was the first experience) So we were exited to go back after our first amazing experience, we were greeted at the bar with a couple glasses of water and literally sat there for 20 minutes - the sushi chefs acknowledged us sitting there, smiled and that was it. Waitresses were no where to be found - at least "sorry be right with you" Or "can we get you a drink?" Sushi chef could have offered us an appy? Nothing! We walked out pretty sad service this time around!!!
Awesome value, especially with the lunch bento. I could eat here every day and be so happy. The fish is always fresh and perfectly prepared, and everything is plated with passion and care.
The latest incarnation of Sen Zushi (post fire and then the temporary location) is even better. The rebuild is a definite improvement on the much-loved original with a better layout and more modern finishings. The food is well prepared from fresh, quality ingredients and each entree is different in taste and presentation. Definitely one of Victoria's best Japanese restaurants.
We've been to Sen Zushi a handful of times and it's always stellar. Definitely recommend reservations. The food is fresh, tasty, and beautifully plated. I also recommend visiting during Dine Around because they always have a great prix fixe menu.
Huge portions at a good price. Went for lunch and one of the best sushi meals I've had. Service was a little slow, but the food was well worth the wait.
We have gone here before, and it was mediocre at best, but we always give restaurants 3 or 4 chances to get an average experience. This was the third time and the last straw. We waited about 10 minutes to even have a hostess acknowledge us at the front desk. Then we were told it was a 20 minute wait, even though we could see 3 open tables with no reserved seating, probably because they were 4 person tables and there were only 2 of us. We left and walked down to Ebizo sushi, had an infinity better meal with amazing service.
