incredible selection of books. some true gems in there, and all very decently prized. if the place seems a bit too chaotic for you, ask one of the very friendly staff members, they know their way around.
Easy to spend an afternoon here exploring. It's tempting to load up in one visit. I only get one or two books so I can return in the near future.
This is what bookshops are all about. Well this, and Maybe Powell's in Portland. I've stopped coming because I spend to much time in money. Okay, maybe not stopped just taking a breather! Long live the stacks!
If a Hollywood movie needs a location for a used book store they need look no further. I would pay admission to get into this store, just to enjoy the parallel universe bookstore vibe. As it was, Don found what I was looking for and now I have something to read. A very enjoyable experience.
Had a book the owner said was interested in so made a trip to vancouver and he tried ripping me off by only offering me $30 when its valued between $1500 to $4000 online!! What a joke!!!
This is what happens when a hoarder manages a book store, I guess. Such a wonderful range of antiquarian books, but soooooo hard to navigate. Made me sneeze. A LOT.
I was here, just yesterday, after looking for a book in two other second hand book stores - to no avail! I went in and immediately saw what I was looking for (Game of Thrones: A Clash of Kings - just in case you wanted to know, for only $6 too and in fantastic condition!). The shop is super cute and has real character; there are books as high as the ceiling and they are everywhere too, but it has such a great charm too it, it reminds me slightly of Olivander's wand shop in Harry Potter - I got a real nostalgia feeling when I went in!
There are no airs and graces about the shop, it is purely a great second hand book shop - I imagine if you were to spend some time in here you could root out some old time classics!
I will definitely be back, and recommending this place to my friends when they ask :)
Book lover's paradise until you try to find something. Neutral rating, mixed feelings. Want to stumble across a lost classic on a lazy day 5*; want to find something specific without a map, good luck.
I initially spoke with a store employee who was lovely. I was inquiring about renting some books for an event which they said they did from time to time. When I followed up before the event to confirm costs, timing etc (as a couple of months had passed since I first inquired)I was put through to the owner Don Stewarthe was incredibly rude to me right from the get go. I have no idea why. I decided not to proceed with the transaction as a result. I will never do business at this store. I feel bad for his employees as I imagine they have to deal with rude Don every day.
Good prices, eclectic selection, knowledgable staff - a properly old-school bookstore.
This place was immense. There are so many books in here you don't even know where to start. There are stacks upon stacks upon stacks of books. It was a little hard to get around and would not be recommended for someone in a wheelchair. However, The staff there are incredibly friendly and helpful. The gentleman we spoke with knew more about books than any other bookstore clerk Ive come across.
It is %100 worth checking out, especially if you are looking for rare books or want a bookstore clerk who knows exactly what they're talking about.
Not only was it a book store. It was an experience to be surrounded by books with so much history. Enjoyed it immensely.
Lots of variety and a very kind owner. Only problems is it's super crowded and hard to navigate. It's very difficult to grab things without knocking 100 more books over. Also the shelves are crazy high so a lot of books are lost to me.
Still my dream bookstore though. Love it.
I wasn't in the store for long but it had a really cool atmosphere (the piles of books, everywhere). I accidentally dropped a book and ripped it and the owner was totally cool about it which was a relief. I ended up buying a Dostoevsky book, good condition for about seven dollars. The owner was really outgoing and kind!! Had I more time I would have explored a little more, there was a huge huge huge selection. Even if you don't plan on getting anything it's super interesting to look at the variety of books and shelves.
