Good cheap motel along the highway. The room layout is really good, with a kitchen / living room area just after entering, and then a short hallway connecting to the bedroom. The bathroom door is located along the hallway. There is a TV in the bedroom, and another in the living room / entrance area. The kitchen includes an oven / stove, microwave, fridge and sink. There's a small couch and coffee table in the living room area, along with a small kitchen table. The room looks a little worn and could definitely use some repairs, but it is clean. For a cheap place to stay for a night of two, this is a good place.

Don't be worried about the initial look of this place. The building is in need of a little TLC (fresh coat of paint, updated decor, etc) but the staff are friendly, the beds are comfy and the rooms are clean. The motel advertises suites with kitchenettes. Our room was a standard double room, and we loved that the two beds were actually in seperate rooms (making vacationing with friends/family/a snoring spouse a breeze!). Rooms come with wifi and cable TV. It's a quick walk into downtown Nanaimo to Port Place where you can choose from a number of eateries or try your luck at Casino Nanaimo. Recommended if you're looking for some discount lodgings in the Nanaimo area.

    AVOID AT ALL COSTS

I tried to simply book a room for six nights and was told that they had to confirm the booking with the owner who wasn't available until the next day. Even for a motel, I cannot fathom how this motel considers itself a business. Avoid at all costs.

I stayed in a 1-Room suite. The room was comfortable for 1 night. It had a couch, bathroom, sink, stove, and microwave which were nice. Wifi is free and it is near the water.

We stayed there overnight. The room was clean and comfortable with a view of the ocean. The price was reasonable. We booked it online. That worked out well. This is a good place if you're looking for something reasonable in Nanaimo.

There was piss under the mattress in one room. And a pair of boxers and a used condom under the mattress in another room. Carpenter ants and black mold in the bathrooms. DO NOT STAY HERE. We were there about 10 minutes.

The Diplomat Motel is the best low cost motel we have ever stayed at. Our two bedroom suite with kitchenette was clean and the beds were comfy. Only complain is that the free Wi-Fi never worked for any of our devices.

First the bathroom smells like urine. We sprayed with lysol over and over but then it smelled like urine and lysol. The doors and walls were dirty. Next we pulled back the sheets and there is hair and dirt on the sheets. We cancelled the room and moved out. The inn keeper came and changed the sheets but would not cut the rate for all the trouble. Harbour Light down the street is much better for the same price.
